A blizzard of climate delusion and deceit

This is the face I have chosen to exemplify this title. There are so many more that could be, but Kathy Hochul’s little talk on the blizzard shows a level of ignorance that renders it laughable. If it were not being eaten up by so many people who vote people like this into office.

In the clip, she says that people are calling what just happened similar to the Buffalo Blizzard of 1977.  How clueless can she be? 1) New York is famous for lake effect events. Has she ever heard of Oswego and what happened there in 1966? Here is a lesson for her. She is the governor.

The Blizzard of 1966 was a severe snowstorm that struck Oswego, New York, and surrounding areas from January 29 to February 1, resulting in over 100 inches of snow and causing significant disruptions, including road closures and fatalities.

It’s amazingly ignorant to compare it to Buffalo in 1977, since most of that snow never fell from the sky! You can’t have lake effect from a frozen lake, so here is what happened.

Much of the massive snow accumulation during the Buffalo Blizzard of 1977 (January 28–February 1) came from high winds blowing powdery snow off the frozen surface of Lake Erie and drifting it onshore.

So, not only is she clueless as to storms to compare it to, but the one she uses had nothing to do with what actually happened, which my company jumped on a week away for anyone who was watching, using an analog method of six great February storms and matching it with this.

Besides it’s not even a top 5 storm in NYC.

Nor in Boston.

We had six analogs we used to set this storm up, four of them are on the chart above. What I did was get the six greatest Feb. storms in a given spot and show the 500 mb pattern for them.

Notice the negative near the mid-Atlantic coast, the positive over the top, and the trough off the west coast.

The model went right to it.

SO JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU GET A SAMPLE OF STORMS, STARTING IN 1958, WITH A FEW FROM THE 60S AND 70S, AND ONLY A COUPLE FROM THE LAST 15 YEARS?

Do you think for one minute last weekend that the governor of NY was looking at this? Or the other propagandists that are coming out of the woodwork? They have no idea what is going on until it’s obvious, and they can use it for their phony climate war agenda. What is amazing is that they don’t care if their ignorance is exposed with traps like this. They are so confident in people swallowing their deception and not being called out, they do it anyway. Which means if a different administration gets in, they are right back. Except this time, they will screw up the rest of the country as they have done with their states.

THEY DON’T CARE.

Do you think any of the climate geniuses spouting the blizzard of deceit and delusion here (it’s more impressive than the storm) were watching to see if it would rain in Los Angeles 3-4 days before?  That was a rule developed by Dave Weinbrenner back in the 1980s in the NWS Medium Range Forecast Office. When snow nuts like me see cold air arriving, and it’s raining in Los Angeles, we know we have to look out. This is because the feature has to have a lot of energy to cause it to rain in Los Angeles, and if it can get across the country three days in, it’s going to snow in most cases. WeatherBELL was way out in front of the first big storm in January, and when I saw the rain come into LAX as it did with this, I was confident that the DC to Boston special we were forecasting was coming!  (Not that special in DC, but everywhere else it was all. and more, of what was advertised.)  So, the storm the week before was a fizzler. No rain in Los Angeles three days before.

Here, look at the precipitation pattern with that analog map I showed above of the six great Feb. storms:

And what happened with this:

So, is that climate change? And the storm the week before that fizzled, what about that?

Both are simply good, old-fashioned, old-school meteorology

And then, there were the warm eddies off the east coast. We specifically showed them and said the storm would move from one to the other and explode.

Which it most certainly did.

It is true Rhode Island had their worst storm ever. But it fell short of one of the analog storms I used in Feb. 2013!  Look at these amounts in Connecticut.

Climate change, they scream, caused this. Really? Look at how COLD THE WATER IS ALL OVER THE PLACE, AS UNKNOWN TO THESE PEOPLE IS THE MAJOR COOLING THAT HAS OCCURRED IN THE NW ATLANTIC THE LAST 2 YEARS!

The last bomb cyclone in late Jan 2022 had all warm water around it

Not so this year.

This major change, by the way, has likely been like a magnet pulling cold air toward New England, and it may be the indication the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation is shifting phases as it does naturally every 30 to 40 years.

But it’s not man-made climate change, and one can argue that enhanced temperature gradients from all the cold water around the warm spots forced the storm to focus its energy more. What a hoot, the cooling helped the storm intensify.

So when I hear this is what they expected, NO IT’S NOT. They were yapping about how warm the water is, plainly not the case here!!

Besides, there have been dozens of storms that bomb out. We used to sing a song in the PSU weather tower (the days of the true weather geeks) back in the 1970s called “Bomb-o-Genesis off the southeastern U.S.” I even remember when I first heard it, the December 1973 snow and ice storm on the East Coast. One of the grad students wanted to write a Meteorological Musical. You talk about nerd alerts. I was one, and still am.

Here are the lyrics, done to the tune of” I am a Rock:”

“A winter’s storm, temperatures well below normal

Cold Arctic air anchored in the NE

The trough is digging southeastward

Altoona had ‘snow began.’  (means it will be snowing in less than hour at PSU)

All eyes are focused on the weatherman, for

Bombogenesis in the southeastern U.S.”

I won’t bore you with the rest of the lyrics, but if you show up at the CFACT Heartland Conference and I have had an Italian margarita, maybe I will sing it to you. We can record it and send it to the phony climate warriors.

In any case, I was amazed how close this storm was to the March 2-4, 1960, storm. Which, by the way, had the pressure bomb out to 960 mb, even stronger than this.

Again, just an example of many I could use.

This ilk will claim anything is climate change.  The Divine Miss M 9 years ago:

She should have kept her mouth shut (but they never do), since it was 13 degrees on March 6 and a mid-month snowstorm left snow on the ground for St Patty’s Day.

But they never do, they will be spouting off about the warmth in a couple of weeks, and then if March into early April turns colder, they will spout off about that too.

And that kind of insane zealotry means they will not go away. That they drag weather and climate into their sewer of agenda-driven politics is a special kind of evil to a person like me, who has loved the weather since his first memory.

I wish they would go away on this matter, but they won’t. They will double down and lie even more. A forecast you can count on.
