What a grandiose mouthful of verbiage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Subsidiary Body for Implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (SBI-UNFCCC) just wrapped<\/a> up its latest session in Bonn, Germany. Abbreviated SB64, it was the 64th meeting of this austere group of \u201cmulti-stakeholder coalitions\u201d \u2014 politicians, government bureaucrats, business rent-seekers and \u201ccivil society\u201d activists \u2014 some 7,000 strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They chattered and schemed for ten days (June 8-18) to set the stage and agenda for COP31, the 31st UN Conference of the Parties, set to take place in Turkey later this year \u2014 the annual gathering of climate-obsessed and cash-hungry countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SB64 was determined<\/a> to \u201caccelerate implementation\u201d of previous climate goals, intoned Turkey\u2019s COP31 President-Designate Murat Kurum. Why? Because \u201cour common home, the Earth, is passing through one of the most critical periods it has ever faced.\u201d (How many times have we heard that one?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, following last year\u2019s COP30 in Brazil, the International Court of Justice proclaimed<\/a> that greenhouse gas emissions \u201cunequivocally\u201d affect Earth\u2019s \u201centire climate system\u201d and pose an \u201cexistential\u201d threat to \u201call forms of life and the very health of our planet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, the court decreed, any developed countries that fail to do their part in preventing further climate change will violate the fundamental \u201chuman right\u201d to a \u201cclean, healthy, and sustainable environment\u201d \u2014 and could face civil and criminal actions for their \u201cinternationally wrongful acts.\u201d How convenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SB64 and the upcoming COP31<\/a> set \u201cclear, measurable targets\u201d that they expect countries worldwide to achieve by 2035<\/a>. This is to ensure, say they, that previously set goals \u201care translated fully into action,\u201d through \u201cshared responsibility, strong cooperation, and determined implementation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, you everyday workers and other folks weren\u2019t invited. You had no say about your planet-saving future. That was the job for government, NGOs, and other far-Left \u201cstakeholders\u201d who know what is best for you and your family, community, country, and planet. Among their action items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
