It\u2019s a very important book, and his basic message is that the\u00a0<strong>IPCC has 40 different computer models, all of which are making predictions<\/strong>, and all of which are being quoted by the press as predicting a climate crisis apocalypse. Each one taken on a cloudless day for covering the whole Earth. That\u2019s a totally artificial Earth, and is a totally artificial case for using a model, and this is pretty much what\u00a0<strong>the IPCC and others use is a cloud-free class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If you look at pictures of the Earth in visible light, i.e. real sunlight, which is\u00a0<strong>sunlight<\/strong>\u00a0is the stuff that<strong>\u00a0heats the Earth.<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0<strong>infrared re-radiation<\/strong>\u00a0is the stuff that that\u00a0<strong>cools the Earth<\/strong>, and it\u2019s\u00a0<strong>the balance<\/strong>\u00a0between these two that\u00a0<strong>controls the Earth\u2019s temperature<\/strong>, and the important piece of the puzzle that has been left out is<strong>\u00a0trying to do this all with a cloud-free Earth, when the real Earth is shrouded in clouds.<\/strong>\u00a0I have some pictures, I don\u2019t know if you can show them, of satellite pictures of the Earth.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure anywhere\u00a0<strong>from 5 to 95 percent<\/strong>. Typically, the Earth is shrouded in clouds\u00a0<strong>at least<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a0<strong>a third of its area to two-thirds<\/strong>\u00a0of its area, and it fluctuates, the cloud cover fraction<strong>\u00a0fluctuates quite dramatically<\/strong>\u00a0on daily, weekly time scales. We call this weather.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/c.tenor.com\/PLqmB_SmXQMAAAAC\/tenor.gif?w=723&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>You can\u2019t have weather without having clouds, and it is this<strong>\u00a0fluctuation in cloud cover<\/strong>\u00a0of the Earth that causes what I would refer to as\u00a0<strong>sunlight reflectivity thermostat that controls the climate<\/strong>, controls the temperature of the Earth, and\u00a0<strong>stabilizes it very powerfully and very dramatically.<\/strong>\u00a0This mechanism, totally heretofore unnoticed, and I call it kind of an elephant in the room, hiding in plain sight that nobody seems to have noticed. I can\u2019t imagine why not, but there were similar elephants in the room in quantum mechanics that I discovered.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>So the variation in the\u00a0<strong>cloud cover,<\/strong>\u00a0the importance in the actual power balance is\u00a0<strong>200 times more powerful than<\/strong>\u00a0the effect, the\u00a0<strong>small effect<\/strong>\u00a0by comparison<strong>\u00a0of CO2.<\/strong>\u00a0And I might add\u00a0<strong>also of methane.<\/strong>\u00a0Methane and CO2 are comparable in the total heat loss.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>So let me give you an example of\u00a0<strong>how this mechanism works.<\/strong>\u00a0Okay, first off, you have to notice that the\u00a0<strong>Earth is two-thirds ocean,<\/strong>\u00a0and that\u2019s where most of the importance of the clouds comes in. Say you only got a third of a cloud cover. So you now have lots and lots of sunlight.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Sunlight impinging on the ocean evaporates seawater.<\/strong>\u00a0Seawater forms water vapor. The<strong>\u00a0water vapor floats up into the sky and forms clouds.<\/strong>\u00a0It forms lots and lots of clouds because the cloud creation rate is very high. But we started out with too low set of clouds, and now we have an increasing number. Well, let me give you an example. If you want to<strong>\u00a0try to read a book on an overcast day indoors without turning the lights on<\/strong>, it\u2019s just too dark. You can\u2019t do it without turning the lights off. The question is, where did all that sunlight go? It\u2019s coming in scattered light coming in through the window, but boy, it\u2019s a lot darker now. So where did it go? There\u2019s only one place.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>It got scattered back out into space where it\u2019s no longer hitting the Earth.<\/strong>\u00a0So, okay, so we now have the total power input coming to the Earth is now much, much smaller. Okay, well, this is happening on the oceans too. If you have large cloud cover, you have a lot of shadows.\u00a0<strong>Clouds create shadows.<\/strong>\u00a0You can see this by standing and watching clouds pass over. Well, the oceans are now shadowed.\u00a0<strong>The shadows don\u2019t have enough energy to evaporate anywhere near as much water.<\/strong>\u00a0So we have too much cloud cover.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Then we\u00a0<strong>reduce the evaporation rate of water<\/strong>, and so that then\u00a0<strong>reduces the production of cloud.<\/strong>\u00a0So we now have these two competing clouds. That needs to be<strong>\u00a0compared with<\/strong>\u00a0this minuscule\u00a0<strong>half a watt per square meter<\/strong>\u00a0of surface area that CO2 contributes. So the power in this thermostat, in terms of what they refer to as radiative forcing, these are the how many watts per square meter of surface area are involved, is<strong>\u00a0200 times more powerful than the effect of CO2 and also methane<\/strong>, by the way.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>So I then assert that this is so powerful. I mean, it\u2019s like your house has a huge furnace with a very accurate thermostat controlling its temperature, and somebody leaves a minor, a small bathroom window, and there\u2019s a small heat leak. Would the rest of the house notice a change in temperature?
