the North Sea oil and gas sector, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Banning new oil and gas exploration licences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imposing high effective tax rates (over 100% in some cases via windfall taxes and other measures).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prioritizing net zero targets over domestic fossil fuel production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She describes Miliband as a &#8220;dangerous fantasist&#8221; sacrificing British production &#8220;on the altar of Net Zero,&#8221; leading to falling domestic output, increased reliance on higher-emission imports, job losses, and exposure to volatile global markets and supply chain risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">_____________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Iran crisis shows folly of Ed Miliband\u2019s North Sea plan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Energy Secretary is a dangerous fantasist hell-bent on destroying our oil and gas industries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It shouldn\u2019t have taken an Iranian attack on the world\u2019s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in Qatar for us to realise the benefits of being able to produce our own oil and gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the world becomes more dangerous, we must ditch fantasy net zero thinking and prioritise our own energy resilience. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2026\/03\/04\/iran-crisis-shows-folly-of-ed-milibands-north-sea-plan\/\">The Telegraph<\/a> has the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This week, the conflict in the Middle East means the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2026\/03\/03\/uk-spring-statement-oil-price-us-iran-war-ftse-100-markets\/\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 one of the most important shipping routes for oil and gas \u2013 is out of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Qatar has shut down production, taking&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2026\/03\/03\/gas-prices-surge-30pc-qatar-shuts-down-production\/\">a fifth of global LNG supplies<\/a>&nbsp;out of the market in a single day and sending gas prices to three-year highs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of this has shown up our luxury belief that we in Britain are better off keeping our own oil and gas in the ground while making ourselves more reliant on Qatari LNG imports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, let\u2019s get the worst of the climate change lobby\u2019s arguments out of the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Destroying our own oil and gas production does not mean we will need any less oil and gas. Even the captured Climate Change Committee acknowledges that we\u2019ll need oil and gas for decades to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest advocates of electrification, such as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2025\/12\/30\/boss-britain-biggest-energy-supplier-300m-fortune\/\">Greg Jackson<\/a>, the founder of Octopus Energy, have said we should back our own oil and gas production because it makes no difference to how much we consume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we are going to need it, then, of course, we should get as much as possible from Britain. That is just common sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of maximising our own production, we have been sleepwalking into disaster.
