daily maximum temperature has been recorded at just two different Met Office weather stations for 16 of those days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The first of those two is \u201c<strong>Scilly, St Marys<\/strong>\u201d on 3 occasions \u2013 \u201c<strong>St Mary\u2019s Airport\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0on 2 occasions \u2013 \u201c<strong>Isles of Scilly<\/strong>\u201d on 3 occasions and \u201c<strong>St Mary\u2019s<\/strong>\u201d on 4 occasions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, the same site has been quoted with 4 separate names presumably to hide the fact that it is such a regular star performer and quite obviously unrepresentative of anywhere other than a very tiny part of a very tiny island. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The inclusion of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tallbloke.wordpress.com\/2025\/10\/01\/scilly-st-marys-airport-wmo03802-does-the-met-office-actually-do-climate-science-anymore\/\">Scilly<\/a>\u00a0in national climate records is genuinely a silly practise. The site was only installed in 2011 and there are&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/utils.ceda.ac.uk\/cgi-bin\/midas_stations\/station_details.cgi.py?id=56962&amp;db=midas_stations\">no archived temperature readings<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;available to view online. It is perversely CIMO rated Class 3 by the Met Office presumably on the basis that harbour beach shorelines are acceptable representations of the natural surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">So, what of its temperature readings on the 27th of January relative to its surroundings. There are lots of Private Weather Stations (PWS) in the immediate vicinity to compare the site\u2019s readings with. those likely to record more extreme has a significant effect.
