The Trump administration has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/09\/24\/trump-admin-halts-more-taxpayer-cash-going-down-green-new-scam-drain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cut billions<\/a>&nbsp;in green energy spending, which contrasts with former President Joe Biden\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycallernewsfoundation.org\/2025\/03\/10\/energy-sec-slams-biden-admin-climate-obsession-lays-out-trump-admins-pivot-in-keynote-houston-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">focus<\/a>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/08\/17\/inflation-reduction-act-two-years-biden-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expensive<\/a>&nbsp;climate initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the Trump administration has moved to boost conventional energy sources like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/25\/christmas-coal-america-jolly-trump-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">coal<\/a>&nbsp;while also looking to advance newer technologies like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/18\/trump-media-technology-group-nuclear-energy-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fusion<\/a>. Though the Biden administration also moved to advance nuclear energy, it cracked down on the oil and gas sector,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.doi.gov\/pressreleases\/president-biden-takes-action-protect-americas-coastlines-future-oil-and-gas-leasing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blocking<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/06\/02\/trump-admin-walks-back-biden-rule-smothering-alaska-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">restricting<\/a>&nbsp;development in areas across the U.S. and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/03\/18\/exclusive-biden-admin-buried-study-lng-crackdown-sources-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">freezing<\/a>&nbsp;liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The policy shift has come alongside a more \u201crealistic\u201d approach to the energy debate, according to Dustin Meyer, senior vice president of Policy, Economics and Regulatory Affairs at the American Petroleum Institute (API). However, the shifting energy landscape could spell bad news for the U.S. in 2026, as artificial intelligence (AI)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/02\/biden-data-center-ai-democrats-trump-affordability-big-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data centers<\/a>\u00a0and other drivers are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/about.bnef.com\/insights\/clean-energy\/ai-and-the-power-grid-where-the-rubber-meets-the-road\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">projected<\/a>\u00a0to drive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/detail.php?id=65264\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demand<\/a>\u00a0potentially\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/07\/07\/america-power-grid-green-energy-biden-trump-blackouts-ai-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">beyond<\/a>\u00a0America\u2019s available supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis has been a year in which the energy conversation has finally become more realistic, and I think fortunately, increasingly, we have a policy environment that reflects that,\u201d Meyer told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cOne of the key reasons why the energy conversation has become more realistic this year is because of the rise of AI and the demonstrable need for more electricity generation to meet the AI demand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/25\/house-senate-gop-biden-regulations-congressional-review-act\/?utm_medium=organic&amp;utm_campaign=related&amp;utm_source=website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(RELATED: Republicans Erased Record Number Of Biden Regulations In 2025. Here Are The Worst<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Trump Flipped The Script<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFixing Joe Biden\u2019s energy crisis has been a priority for President Trump since day one, and lowering energy costs for American families and businesses will continue to be a top priority in the new year,\u201d White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers told the DCNF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The administration has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/promises-made-promises-kept\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">repeatedly<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ENERGY\/status\/1995998968648483324\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">touted<\/a>\u00a0Trump\u2019s energy policies as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/articles\/2025\/12\/gas-prices-plunge-to-new-multi-year-low-and-trending-lower\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ushering in<\/a>\u00a0lower gas prices and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/energy-secretary-ensures-colorado-coal-plant-remains-open-prevent-blackouts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">argued<\/a>\u00a0that Department of Energy (DOE) efforts to keep coal plants operating past their planned decommission dates will help maintain affordability for ratepayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump administration also spearheaded a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycallernewsfoundation.org\/2025\/03\/12\/exclusive-trump-epa-targets-key-regulatory-lever-driving-democrats-climate-agenda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">major<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/15\/small-business-administration-strike-force-biden-regulations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deregulatory effort<\/a>, with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin announcing that his agency is targeting the 2009&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/07\/29\/trump-zeldin-endangerment-finding-primes-america-free-democrat-climate-nonsense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Endangerment Finding<\/a>, a keystone climate regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Biden moved quickly to restrict the oil and gas industry \u2014&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/05\/joe-biden-keystone-xl-canada-oil-imports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">canceling<\/a>&nbsp;the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in the Oval Office \u2014 the Trump administration has fought to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/08\/22\/exclusive-trump-admin-kills-massive-offshore-wind-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">block<\/a>&nbsp;offshore wind projects, most recently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/22\/trump-admin-orders-offshore-wind-farm-pauses-over-national-security-risks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">halting<\/a>&nbsp;construction on all major projects in the U.S., citing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycallernewsfoundation.org\/2025\/08\/21\/trump-admin-probing-imported-wind-turbines-over-national-security-concerns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">national security<\/a>&nbsp;concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some energy experts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/16\/bipartisan-permitting-reform-trump-republicans-energy-agenda-fossil-fuels-wind-farms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">argue<\/a>&nbsp;that Trump\u2019s crackdown could finally bring Congressional Democrats to the table on deregulation. However, the administration\u2019s recent pause on offshore wind projects has prompted some Democrats to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/senate-democrats-threaten-permitting-talks-over-offshore-wind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">threaten<\/a>&nbsp;to walk away from a deal, as key&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/18\/energy-deregulation-companies-congress-midterm-deadline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">permitting reform legislation<\/a>&nbsp;hangs in the balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf rising prices are the problem, we think permitting reform is a big part of the solution,\u201d Meyer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rising Electricity Costs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meyer told the DCNF that \u201caffordability has become the defining energy issue in American politics, and perhaps just the defining issue in American politics, and energy is just essential to doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electricity costs are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycallernewsfoundation.org\/2025\/11\/27\/heres-why-your-electricity-bill-may-skyrocket-this-holiday-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">projected<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/detail.php?id=65284\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">keep rising<\/a>&nbsp;in 2026, despite the administration\u2019s efforts to deregulate and bolster traditional energy sources. The Energy Information Administration (EIA)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/outlooks\/steo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">projects<\/a>&nbsp;that demand from data centers and cryptocurrency mining will contribute to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.utilitydive.com\/news\/electricity-prices-demand-to-continue-rising-in-2026-eia\/805395\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rising electricity costs<\/a>&nbsp;in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The administration and some&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/12\/10\/exclusive-democrats-crippling-electricity-bills-affordability-utilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">energy experts<\/a>&nbsp;have reasoned that blue states have higher rates and that Democrat policies restricting supply may be driving cost increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rogers told the DCNF that \u201chigh energy prices are a choice \u2013 blue states like California and Maine are stubbornly choosing Green Energy Scam policies that are making electricity bills unaffordable. Meanwhile, GOP-led states are successfully lowering energy costs for their residents by embracing President Trump\u2019s commonsense \u2018DRILL, BABY, DRILL\u2019 agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instituteforenergyresearch.org\/the-grid\/blue-states-high-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent analysis<\/a>&nbsp;from the Institute for Energy Research and Always on Energy Research showed that blue states generally have higher electricity costs than red states.
