class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t look for that take-home in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/dec\/16\/artic-record-heat-shrunken-sea-ice-report\">legacy media<\/a>, since they will all focus on the bits of the report that feed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/from-record-warming-to-rusting-rivers-2025-arctic-report-card-shows-a-region-transforming-faster-than-expected-271572\">doom-mongering narrative.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/polarbearscience.com\/2023\/09\/22\/17-years-of-near-zero-trend-in-september-sea-ice-demolishes-claim-that-more-co2-means-less-sea-ice\/\">September sea ice extent<\/a>&nbsp;has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/arctic.noaa.gov\/report-card\/report-card-2025\/sea-ice-2025\/\">continued to stall,<\/a>&nbsp;rather than plummet as predicted (Table 1: eleventh lowest average September extent since 1979; 4.75 mkm2), although they don\u2019t come out and say so. NSIDC has stopped producing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nsidc.org\/sea-ice-today\/analyses\">monthly sea ice reports<\/a>&nbsp;due to budget cuts in late September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the Report Card highlights [my bold]:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>From 2003 to 2025, phytoplankton productivity spiked by 80% in the Eurasian Arctic, 34% in the Barents Sea, and 27% in Hudson Bay.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Plankton productivity in 2025 was higher than the 2003-22 average in eight of nine regions assessed across the Arctic.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/arctic.noaa.gov\/report-card\/report-card-2025\/arctic-ocean-primary-productivity-the-response-of-marine-algae-to-climate-warming-and-sea-ice-decline-2025\/\">the report<\/a>&nbsp;on primary productivity itself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>All regions, except for the Amerasian Arctic (the combined Chukchi Sea, Beaufort Sea, and Canadian Archipelago), continue to exhibit positive trends in ocean primary productivity during 2003-25, with the largest percent changes in the Eurasian Arctic (+80.2%), Barents Sea (+33.8%), and Hudson Bay (+27.1%).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/polarbearscience.com\/2023\/07\/17\/more-barents-sea-polar-bear-habitat-at-mid-july-2023-than-in-2012-despite-more-atmospheric-co2\/\">explained previously<\/a>&nbsp;how and why this
