The <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/news\/norway-electric-buses-controlled-china?utm_source=theblaze-daily&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=New-Trending-Story_WEEKEND%202025-11-01&amp;utm_term=ACTIVE%20LIST%20-%20TheBlaze%20Breaking%20News&amp;tpcc=email\">Blaze Media<\/a> has the story.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some cities have gone all-in on their dedication to renewable energy and electric public transportation but discovering that a jurisdiction does not actually control its own public property likely was not part of the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This turned out to be exactly the case when Ruter \u2014 the public transportation authority for Oslo, Norway \u2014 decided to run tests on its new Chinese electric buses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Approximately 300 e-buses from Chinese company Yutong made their way to Norway earlier this year, with outlet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/m.chinabuses.org\/analyst\/13675.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">China Buses<\/a>&nbsp;calling it a &#8220;core breakthrough&#8221; in Chinese brands&#8217; global reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yutong offers at least 15 different types of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.yutong.com\/products\/e-bus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">electric buses<\/a>&nbsp;ranging from 60- to 120-passenger capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As reported by Norwegian newspaper&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aftenposten.no\/oslo\/i\/PpWLwJ\/ruter-har-testet-egne-elbusser-de-kinesiske-kan-stoppes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aftenposten<\/a>&nbsp;on Tuesday, Ruter conducted secret testing on some of its electric buses over the summer. It decided to look into one bus from a European manufacturer, as well as another from Yutong, to address cybersecurity risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The test results were shocking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators discovered that the Chinese-built buses could be controlled remotely from their homeland, unlike the European vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ruter reported that the Chinese can access software updates, diagnostics, and battery systems remotely, and, &#8220;In theory, the bus could therefore be stopped or rendered unusable by the manufacturer.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The details were described by Arild Tjomsland, who helped conduct the tests. Tjomsland is a special adviser at the University of South-Eastern Norway, according to Turkish website&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/europe\/oslo-tests-reveal-chinese-electric-buses-can-be-switched-off-remotely\/3729009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Chinese bus can be stopped, turned off, or receive updates that can destroy the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/return\/mark-zuckerberg-is-coming-for-your-wallet\">technology<\/a>&nbsp;that the bus needs to operate normally,&#8221; Tjomsland reportedly said.
