to build green energy projects.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Commodity analysts have warned that the cost of manufacturing renewable technologies \u2013 which rely heavily on copper \u2013 will surge after the industrial metal hit a record high on the London Metal Exchange.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The price rose as high as $11,200 (\u00a38,500) a ton on Wednesday, extending its gains so far this year to more than 27pc. It is on track for its best year since 2017.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Although prices fell from their peak on Thursday \u2013 dipping to $11,183 a ton \u2013 they still remain elevated by historical standards.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Bjarne Schieldrop, chief commodities analyst at Swedish bank SEB, said: \u201cIt will add costs to all [things] connected to electricity and not the least all things connected to renewable energy, power systems, transformers, EVs (electric vehicles).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Liam Fitzpatrick, an analyst at Deutsche Bank, warned that the surging price of copper had raised doubts among bosses about the&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2025\/10\/01\/cost-of-switching-off-wind-farms-hits-1bn\/\"><em>viability of some future green energy projects<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>He said many attendees at the bank\u2019s copper conference last month admitted the surging price \u201cdoes not support the development of major new greenfield projects\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Wind farms, solar panels and&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2025\/10\/11\/the-crime-wave-threatening-electric-car-sales\/\"><em>electric vehicles all rely heavily on copper<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;cabling to connect to the national grid.
