Coral coverage was supposed to be existentially devastated by the modern tenths-of-a-degree increases in sea surface temperatures and recurring bleaching events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, a new study<\/a><\/strong> points to assessments of coral cover percentages in the Great Barrier Reef and concludes is \u201cat its highest since monitoring began in 1985.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, the analysis reveals there is \u201cno consistent correlation between rising temperatures and reduced coral cover,\u201d and that \u201cmost corals [are] demonstrating rapid recovery\u201d from bleaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Australian Government<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0also documents significant decadal variability in coral cover, but no overall trend or decline in coral coverage since the early 1980s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
