\u201cClimate policy is decidedly unfashionable in 2025 \u2014 among Democrats\u2026. Climate is out, affordability is in.\u201d \u2013 Debra Kahn, Politico<\/em> (below)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Debra Kahn, \u201ceditor of POLITICO\u2019s California Climate newsletter and author of Currents, a reported column on the conversations, conflicts and characters animating the energy, environment and climate debates,\u201d corrected the eco-narrative recently. While the climate campaigners are busy trying to sell politically correct renewables (wind and solar) as cheaper, she uncorked a Truth Bomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In \u201cWhat Trump\u2019s Victory Taught Democrats About Climate Change<\/a>,\u201d Politico Magazine<\/em> (October 16, 2025), she wrote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The party isn\u2019t embracing climate change denialism like many in the GOP, nor is it endorsing the Trump administration\u2019s attacks on clean energy. But as Democrats continue groping for a way forward after their 2024 defeat, they\u2019ve clearly decided they need to change how they talk about climate and energy issues. And in some cases, it goes beyond rhetoric to the actual policies they\u2019re promoting. The bottom line for Democrats: Climate is out, affordability is in.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Ouch! To begin with, she notes, climate change is not a major concern of voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an issue that I think we need to continue to engage on and speak out on and work to legislate on, but it\u2019s not a top three issue right now,\u201d Sen. Chris Coons, the Democratic co-chair of the Senate\u2019s bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, told me\u2026.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a muddled message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cSometimes our messaging in the Democratic Party \u2014 not great<\/a>,\u201d Sherrill said in a March interview. \u201cFor years we\u2019ve said, \u2018We need to move into clean power.\u2019 And there\u2019s almost been this understanding, \u2018It\u2019s going to cost you an arm and a leg, but if you\u2019re a good person, you\u2019ll do it.\u2019 So now that we\u2019re actually in that place that we promised \u2014 it was going to be cheaper than any other source of power \u2014 people are skeptical.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The climate message is also diluted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

David Hill, executive vice president of the energy program at the Bipartisan Policy Center, noted that when electricity supplies were ample, there was less of a need to focus on reliability and affordability when talking climate. Now, those are the public\u2019s key concerns and so climate advocates are facing \u201csome pretty severe pushback,\u201d even as there\u2019s only so much they can do.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Climate alarm and government enablement of inferior energies are losing\u2014coming and going. The narrative is busted, too. The climate complex is in a messaging crisis. Gilad Regev<\/a> has stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe the problem isn\u2019t climate denial. Maybe it\u2019s climate messaging. We\u2019ve been attempting to scare or shame people into caring, and it\u2019s not effective. Is it time to completely rethink how we talk about climate and sustainability? We\u2019ve spent years trying to influence people through fear, data, and moral urgency. The results? Mixed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

I have elsewhere suggested<\/a> a new message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sum the arguments and \u2026 it is time for free market energy policies to replace crony capitalism and the termite aspirations of the Climate Industrial Complex. To all climate alarmists and forced energy transformationists, check your premises for mid-course correction. Climate anxiety not.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
