A reporter has called out a dangerous population myth \u2013 one designed to protect billionaires while punishing everyday people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s one of the most persistent climate myths out there: the planet is frying because there are simply too many people.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

But journalist Louisa Schneider has taken to TikTok<\/a> to call it out for what it really is \u2013 a \u201cdangerous\u201d lie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey want us to believe that the climate crisis is caused by \u2018overpopulation.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut we have enough resources for everyone!\u201d the text of her video read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t a population crisis. It\u2019s a distribution crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd the myth of overpopulation? It\u2019s not just wrong \u2013 it\u2019s dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schneider pointed to a 2023 Oxfam report<\/a> which found the richest 1 per cent of the world\u2019s population were responsible for as much carbon pollution in 2019 as two-thirds of everyone else combined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That same year, their emissions alone were estimated to have caused more than 1.3 million heat-related deaths, Oxfam<\/em> putting it bluntly: the super-rich \u201cburned through their share of the global carbon budget\u201d within the first 10 days of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schneider\u2019s takeaway? The Earth doesn\u2019t have a people problem \u2013 it has a power problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wish schools still made an effort to teach history. Then otherwise intelligent people might stop dredging these dreadful failed ideas from the trashcan of history and presenting them as new and innovative solutions to imaginary problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
