I suppose they plan to dispose of the CO<sub>2<\/sub>&nbsp;this way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next 25%: Early-stage technologies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The authors estimate a quarter of emissions abatement could come from technologies in the early stages of commercialization, including zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles, clean industrial heating from electricity and hydrogen, and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.stanford.edu\/stories\/2025\/09\/carbon-free-california-net-zero-emissions-technologies-challenges\">Stanford Report<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While CCS will technically work, it takes at least four years to get a Class VI CCS permit approved by the EPA or state agency with primacy. The EPA currently has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/awsedap.epa.gov\/public\/single\/?appid=8c074297-7f9e-4217-82f0-fb05f54f28e7&amp;sheet=51312158-636f-48d5-8fe6-a21703ca33a9&amp;theme=horizon&amp;bookmark=6218ffed-bb6e-42e4-a4f1-52d87e036a1b&amp;opt=ctxmenu\">240 CCS well permit applications<\/a>&nbsp;that it has received since 2021. Only 3 are are in the \u201cPrepare Final Permit Decision Phase.\u201d Only 55 of those permit applications are in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/awsedap.epa.gov\/public\/single\/?appid=8c074297-7f9e-4217-82f0-fb05f54f28e7&amp;sheet=51312158-636f-48d5-8fe6-a21703ca33a9&amp;theme=horizon&amp;bookmark=6218ffed-bb6e-42e4-a4f1-52d87e036a1b&amp;opt=ctxmenu\">California<\/a>&nbsp;and none have moved beyond the preliminary \u201cTechnical Review Phase.\u201d In contrast, 64 permit applications are in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/awsedap.epa.gov\/public\/single\/?appid=8c074297-7f9e-4217-82f0-fb05f54f28e7&amp;sheet=51312158-636f-48d5-8fe6-a21703ca33a9&amp;theme=horizon&amp;bookmark=6218ffed-bb6e-42e4-a4f1-52d87e036a1b&amp;opt=ctxmenu\">Texas<\/a>&nbsp;or its state waters. All 3 of the \u201cPrepare Final Permit Decision Phase\u201d applications are in Texas.
