A rise in gas and electricity prices has prompted energy suppliers to call for “enduring” targeted support for those in financial difficulty.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy costs are up 2% from Wednesday for millions of people in England, Wales and Scotland as regulator Ofgem\u2019s latest price cap come into effect.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campaigners say many will struggle with another winter of relatively high bills, with a record \u00a34.4bn owed to suppliers by their customers, recent official figures reveal.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government said it was taking “urgent action” to support vulnerable families this winter.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some companies have <\/em>schemes in place to write off debt or offer emergency vouchers, external<\/em><\/a>, but these measures vary across the sector.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The level of support [is] still insufficient for those that need it most,” said Ned Hammond, a deputy director at Energy UK.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The government needs to make swift progress to improve targeting and design an enduring support scheme that effectively addresses fuel poverty.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quite astonishingly, the BBC go through the whole article without one single mention of \u201cNet Zero\u201d or \u201crenewable energy subsidies\u201d!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But they do note that the government has also pledged to bring down household energy costs by investing in home-grown energy, without bothering to challenge how bills can come down by paying offshore wind farms 50% more than the market price!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole thing is smoke & mirrors anyway, as any debt relief will end up being added to everybody else\u2019s bills:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
