When Americans hear about carbon dioxide\u00a0(CO2),<\/strong>\u00a0it\u2019s often\u00a0shown as a harmful pollutant<\/strong>\u00a0that threatens the planet. Politicians, activists, and media outlets warn that if we don\u2019t reduce emissions right away, disaster will happen.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Preeminent \u201cclimate scientist\u201d Al Gore\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0Congress in 2007,\u00a0\u201cThe science is settled. Carbon dioxide<\/strong>\u00a0emissions \u2013 from cars, power plants, buildings, and other sources \u2013 are\u00a0heating the Earth\u2019s atmosphere<\/strong>.\u201d He continued warning,\u00a0\u201cThe planet has a fever.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What if<\/strong>\u00a0the fever is instead\u00a0a cold plunge?<\/strong>\u00a0As CNN\u00a0reminded<\/a>\u00a0us earlier this year, \u201cRecord-breaking cold: Temperatures to plunge to as much as 50 degrees below normal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Weather Channel\u00a0posted<\/a>\u00a0on Facebook last week, \u201cRecord-breaking cold temperatures<\/strong>\u00a0for the month of August provide many their\u00a0first taste of fall.<\/strong>\u201d What happened to global warming?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

\"A<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Let\u2019s not focus on the last year or the last fifty years. Instead, let\u2019s look at the past 600 million years<\/strong>. From this perspective, the story looks very different.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Patrick Moore, cofounder of Greenpeace,<\/strong> authored a policy paper<\/a> in 2016 titled, \u201cThe positive impact of CO2 emissions on the survival of life on earth.\u201d Note the organization he cofounded. This is not some far-right, anti-science, fascist, Nazi, white supremacist organization, as the left would characterize anyone questioning \u201csettled\u201d climate science. Since its founding in 1971, Greenpeace<\/a> has promoted environmental activism.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Moore, in his\u00a0paper<\/a>, presented this graph.\u00a0 The graph caption indicates that\u00a0temperature and atmospheric CO2 are only loosely correlated, if at all.<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a graph of global temperature and atmospheric CO2 concentration over the past 600 million years.\u00a0Note both temperature and CO2 are lower today<\/strong>\u00a0than they have been during most of the era of modern life on Earth since the Cambrian Period. Also, note that this does not indicate a lockstep cause-effect relationship between the two parameters.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"A<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The main point from the graph is that current CO2 levels are not dangerously high.<\/strong> In fact, they are quite the opposite, being some of the lowest in history.<\/strong> For most of Earth\u2019s history, CO2 concentrations were many times higher than today\u2019s 420 ppm. Even during the Cretaceous period, when dinosaurs roamed, levels were about four times higher than today.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a geological view, our current CO2 levels are among the lowest in history. Yet climate advocates focus on a tiny rise in CO2 in recent years<\/strong>, ignoring the previous half billion years.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alarmists scream that 420 ppm<\/strong> is unprecedented and endangers the planet\u2019s survival. However, the reality is nearly the opposite: we could be experiencing a CO2 drought.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To my knowledge, dinosaurs didn\u2019t drive gas-guzzling SUVs, run the air conditioner, or cook on gas stoves. Yet, miraculously, the Earth neither burned up nor became uninhabitable,<\/strong> as Al Gore and other climate alarmists currently predict. Instead, life thrived, diversified, and expanded to the point that I can write this article on my laptop, in the comfort of my air-conditioned home, before I fire up the grill for dinner.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"~250-year<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

What stands out is not correlation but complexity.<\/strong>\u00a0Temperature and CO2 did not move in lockstep. Sometimes, CO2 was high during cooling periods, and other times, CO2 decreased while temperatures rose. The \u201clockstep causation\u201d story falls apart when viewed over millions of years.\u00a0Earth\u2019s climate is influenced by many factors,<\/strong>\u00a0such as solar cycles, orbital changes, volcanic activity, and ocean currents, not just a single trace gas.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

CO2 makes up only 0.04% of the\u00a0atmosphere<\/a>, less than one part per thousand. The complexity is\u00a0summarized<\/a>\u00a0by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC):<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

If CO2 has in the past reached ten times current levels without causing a runaway greenhouse effect, how can today\u2019s modest increase be seen as an existential threat? The\u00a0Earth system is more resilient than many activists admit.<\/strong>\u00a0That resilience, demonstrated over hundreds of millions of years of survival, should humble today\u2019s doom prophets.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately, policymakers are beginning to see that climate alarmism is based on shaky ground. As ZeroHedge\u00a0reported<\/a>, Trump\u2019s\u00a0EPA plans to remove greenhouse gases from the list of regulated pollutants,<\/strong>\u00a0recognizing that treating CO\u2082 like sulfur dioxide or mercury isn\u2019t scientifically justified.\u00a0 They summarized the rationale well.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump\u2019s reversal of EPA standards and deregulation will help the U.S. economy.\u00a0\u00a0More importantly, it\u00a0starts the much-needed process of removing climate change brainwashing<\/strong>\u00a0from the federal government\u2019s vernacular.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s time for Western civilization to abandon the climate hoax and move on.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

More recently, the New York Times reported<\/a> a more significant development: The EPA is now revoking its Endangerment Finding on greenhouse gases.<\/strong> That 2009 decision served as the legal, though not scientific, foundation for the federal government\u2019s climate policy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By rescinding it, the agency admits what skeptics have claimed all along. CO2 is not a poison but a natural part of the biosphere<\/strong>, essential for plant life, agriculture, and human survival. Simply put, CO2 is plant food and vital for life on Earth.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

When even the EPA admits that the case against CO2 isn\u2019t as strong as claimed,\u00a0why<\/strong>\u00a0should the rest of us\u00a0accept the narrative of \u201csettled science,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0whether it\u2019s about CO2 or COVID-era masks, vaccines, distancing, and lockdowns?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Perhaps the most troubling result of climate panic isn\u2019t faulty science but poor policymaking. Fear opens the door to authoritarian control.<\/strong> We saw this during COVID lockdowns when extreme restrictions were justified in the name of \u201cpublic health.\u201d Climate alarmists now use the same tactics, claiming<\/a> that global warming is \u201can existential threat.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As HotAir recently reported<\/a>, three Canadian provinces<\/strong> have implemented sweeping bans on entering woodland areas, citing wildfire risks and climate change. Violators face heavy fines or jail time. Critics quickly pointed out the striking similarity to so-called \u201cclimate lockdowns,\u201d once dismissed as conspiracy theories. Yet here they are, with citizens barred from a common outdoor activity in the name of climate policy.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t environmental stewardship; it\u2019s authoritarian social control<\/strong>. A government willing to close forests today will be willing to restrict cars, air travel, or even personal diets tomorrow, all justified as part of a \u201cclimate emergency.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once rights are limited in the name of carbon, what boundaries remain?<\/strong> After all, humans exhale CO2, making all human activity a threat to the species, activities that should be restricted or stopped at any cost. In other words, population control by any means necessary.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

None of this is to deny that climate science involves uncertainty.<\/strong> Proxy data are imperfect, and today\u2019s industrial society introduces variables that weren\u2019t present millions of years ago. Climate sensitivity to CO2, although debated, may not be zero, but is probably negligible<\/strong> and not worth imposing overwhelming socioeconomic regulations and burdens on working families and developing nations.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But uncertainty cuts both ways. If the science is uncertain, then the justification for strict, top-down rules collapses.<\/strong> Policy should demonstrate humility, not arrogance. Instead of harsh restrictions, we should focus on<\/strong> balanced adaptation<\/strong>, resilient infrastructure<\/strong>, responsible energy<\/strong> choices, and innovation<\/strong>, all while maintaining freedom and prosperity.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real irony is that the more you zoom out,\u00a0the less CO2 seems to be the \u201ccontrol knob\u201d of climate.<\/strong>\u00a0Over 600 million years, CO2 levels were much higher than today\u2019s, yet Earth stayed habitable and life flourished. If anything, our current levels could be too low, raising worries about agricultural productivity and plant growth in a CO2-deficient atmosphere, which might cause starvation and desolation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are told to fear things that could actually be helpful. Higher CO2 levels increase crop yields, support reforestation, and restore dry lands.<\/strong> Calling it \u201cpollution\u201d goes against biology itself. CO2 is plant food, and without it, humans might face extinction like the dinosaurs.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s time to replace fear with perspective. Instead of shutting down people, destroying industries, or labeling farmers as villains, we should understand that CO2 is not our enemy. Climate alarmism is. Believing otherwise isn\u2019t science; it\u2019s superstition.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
