House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman James Comer announced Wednesday he is investigating the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) over an expedited review that possibly was designed to undermine President Donald Trump\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NASEM is fast-tracking a\u00a0review<\/a>\u00a0of how greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) might endanger public health, following the Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s (EPA)\u00a0move<\/a>\u00a0to roll back the Endangerment Finding, a\u00a0landmark<\/a>\u00a0Obama-era climate finding. The Daily Caller<\/a> has the story.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comer flagged the review for potential \u201cpartisan aims\u201d and called on NASEM President Marcia McNutt to provide all communications regarding the proposed Endangerment Finding rule change and the organization\u2019s funding sources to the committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Committee is concerned that this study is being conducted with partisan aims in mind, as the National Academy of Sciences has made several questionable decisions in past years while under [Ms. McNutt\u2019s] leadership, exposing potential partisan bias. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, the organization endorsed President Biden\u2019s selection for his Top Science Advisor, despite his history of failing to disclose conflicts of interest and understating the contributions of his colleagues in developing a biotechnology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organization has also conducted politicized DEI-focused research and studies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the committee conducting this fast-tracked study have also shown partisan bias,\u201d Comer said Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGiven these positions and affiliations, it is unlikely these individuals can conduct an impartial scientific review, and the Committee has serious concerns that the National Academy of Sciences appears to be enabling the aforementioned partisan conflicts of interest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EPA\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0its intent to rescind the 2009 Endangerment Finding on July 29, which EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0as tantamount to\u00a0\u201cdriving a dagger into the heart of the climate change religion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cConservatives believe that we can both protect the environment and grow the economy. It\u2019s not a choice. We are choosing to do both. And on top of it, that\u2019s what the American public wants,\u201d Zeldin said on the conservative \u201cRuthless\u201d podcast on July 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
