He delivered those remarks on Friday to the Council on Foreign Relations, a Washington research organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEurope is in the midst of almost completely deindustrializing the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution,\u201d Mr. Wright said, referring to Europe\u2019s commitments to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that are heating the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called the 2015 Paris agreement, in which the United States and nearly every other country pledged to reduce greenhouse gases, \u201csilly.\u201d

\u201cClimate change, for impacting the quality of your life, is not incredibly important,\u201d Mr. Wright said. \u201cIn fact, if it wasn\u2019t in the news, in the media, you wouldn\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chris Wright, who travels to Europe next week to promote American gas, called climate change \u201cnot incredibly important.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Wright suggested, without citing evidence, that a damaged wind turbine blade from a different project, Vineyard Wind, that washed up on beaches of Nantucket last year occurred because those approvals were rushed. Mr. Wright blamed what he described as a misplaced emphasis in the Biden administration on tackling climate change and promoting clean energy.

\u201cThese were permitted rather quickly,\u201d Mr. Wright said. \u201cIf you do something fast and quickly, because we\u2019re in a crisis and it must happen, bad things happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Wright\u2019s remarks came as the Trump administration has radically fast-tracked permits for oil, gas and mining because the president has asserted the United States faces an energy crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
