Climate.gov, which went dark this summer, to be revived by volunteers as climate.us with expanded mission<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this summer, access to climate.gov \u2013 one of the most widely used portals of climate information on the internet \u2013 was thwarted by the Trump administration, and its production team was fired in the process<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, a team of climate communication experts \u2013 including many members of the former climate.gov team \u2013 is working to resurrect its content into a new organization with an expanded mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their effort\u2019s new website, climate.us<\/a>, would not only offer public-facing interpretations of climate science, but could also begin to directly offer climate-related services, such as assisting local governments with mapping increased flooding risk due to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effort is being led by climate.gov\u2019s former managing editor, Rebecca Lindsey, who, although now unemployed, has recruited several of her former colleagues to volunteer their time in an attempt to build climate.us into a thriving non-profit organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaving aside the intriguing question of why a website which President Trump ordered shut down is still available online and burning federal funds, this once again demonstrates there is no need to fund alarmist climate scientists from taxpayer money. They\u2019re all so eager to give us their opinions, they\u2019ll keep on doing it even when the funding is removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This determination of alarmists to work on despite no longer being paid by taxpayer’s echoes events in Australia a decade ago. To quote former Aussie Prime Minister\u00a0Tony Abbott<\/a>, when asked in 2013 why he planned to fire climate commissioner\u00a0Tim Flannery<\/a>,\u00a0Abbott\u2019s response<\/a>\u00a0was \u201cIt does sound like an unnecessary position given the gentlemen in question gives us the benefit of his views without needing taxpayer funding<\/em> \u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
