AEP criticises Kemi Badenoch\u2019s plan to maximise North Sea oil and gas. As I wrote yesterday, he offers no economic justification for his position. It is purely based on Net Zero dogma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, he thinks we can rely on wind power and that oil and gas will soon be dead end technologies anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clearly, he has not read NESO\u2019s Future Energy Scenarios, published a couple of months ago:<\/p>\n\n\n

According to NESO, the UK will still be using nearly as much natural gas in ten years’ time as we are now \u2013between 71% and 80%, depending on scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even by 2040, we will still be using at least half as much. And if we go for the hydrogen scenario in a big way, gas consumption will barely fall at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand for petrol and diesel for transport will also remain strong for at least the next ten years. And the FES does not even look at non-transport use of oil products, which account for nearly half of UK consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So where does AEP suggest we get all of this oil and gas?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
