class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quietly, the world manufacturing base for solar panels has been shrinking for nearly two years and yet hardly anyone knows.\u00a0 Especially not the Prime Minister of Australia who set up the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/arena.gov.au\/news\/solar-manufacturing-gets-a-sunshot\/\">$1 billion<em>\u00a0Solar Sunshot\u00a0<\/em><\/a>a year ago to artificially create an Australian solar panel manufacturing industry, twenty years too late, and with the worst possible timing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>China has already captured the solar market and killed it.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-91bed452620e4038f43a35ad64f85014\">Gluts have consequences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CCP is making twice as many solar panels as the world wants to buy.&nbsp; The latest trend is from bad to worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s remember this story, the next time the propaganda media try to tell us solar panels are setting new records. Isn\u2019t this the sort of thing our investigative sleuths at the ABC-BBC-CBC should have been digging out before elections were held? Doesn\u2019t this change everything?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australia is supposed to be going gangbusters \u201cleading the world\u201d and installing&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2023\/08\/expert-everyone-knows-australia-will-miss-the-netzero-target-only-4-renewables-projects-approved-in-last-quarter\/\">22,000 panels a day to meet our Net Zero target,<\/a>&nbsp;but no one else in the world is doing that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/world-at-work\/chinas-solar-giants-quietly-shed-third-their-workforces-last-year-2025-08-01\/\">China\u2019s solar giants quietly shed a third of their workforces last year<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Reuters<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Over 40 solar firms have delisted, gone bankrupt or been sold since 2024<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/climate-energy\/china-solar-industry-address-overcapacity-challenge-turnaround-far-off-experts-2025-06-13\/\">industry lost $60 billion<\/a>\u00a0last year.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEIJING, August 1 (Reuters) \u2013 China\u2019s biggest solar firms shed nearly one-third of their workforces last year, company filings show, as one of the industries hand-picked by Beijing to drive economic growth grapples with falling prices and steep losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Layoffs are politically sensitive in China, where Beijing views employment as key to social stability. Other than a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/chinas-longi-says-it-will-lay-off-about-5-employees-2024-03-19\/\">5% cut<\/a>&nbsp;acknowledged by Longi last year, none of the firms mentioned above have announced any job cuts or responded to questions from Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe industry has been facing a downturn since the end of 2023,\u201d said Cheng Wang, an analyst at Morningstar. \u201cIn 2024, it actually got worse. In 2025, it looks like it\u2019s getting even worse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">There is a glut on our grids too<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Duck Curve has been quacking on grids in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2024\/04\/glut-in-home-solar-causes-californian-bubble-to-pop-sales-down-75\/\">California<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2018\/06\/solar-overload-costs-a-fortune-as-the-super-duck-curve-flood-of-electricity-hits-australia\/\">Australia for years<\/a>. Finally the market is starting to pay people what solar power is really worth.&nbsp; Many solar feed in tariffs in Australia are shrinking to nothing. The tragedy is that this was not done 10 years ago, so homeowners were not misled (and not squeezed to cough up the payments to subsidize too).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ia.acs.org.au\/article\/2025\/power-companies-don-t-want-your-solar-power-anymore.html\">Power companies don\u2019t want your solar power anymore<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026&nbsp;4 million Australian homeowners are set for disappointment as energy retailers all but stop buying their solar power&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;blowing out the promised return on investment (ROI) and pushing customers towards costly batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solar customers in Victoria, in particular, recently received notifications from their retailers that their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/solarnerds.com.au\/consumer\/feed-in-tariffs\">feed-in tariff<\/a>&nbsp;(FIT) had been slashed as of 1 July,\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Excess solar is so toxic, that prices are negative.&nbsp; Things are so crazy,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2024\/09\/random-power-glut-means-80-of-solar-plant-output-was-thrown-away-on-sunday\/\">solar farms often have to disconnect at midday<\/a>, right at their peak, or they will have to pay people to take the power away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Unlike all the expert prophesies, coal production is still growing, and solar factories are the stranded assets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>h\/t To Paul Homewood at&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com\/2025\/08\/04\/chinas-solar-sector-has-slashed-87000-jobs-since-2024\/\">NotaLotOfPeopleKnowThat<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>for the story idea.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>POST NOTE<\/strong>: 44,000 panels a day corrected to 22,000.
