Once perched atop the climate movement\u2019s moral high ground, the self-anointed\u00a0\u201cclimate hawks\u201d are now watching their influence dwindle<\/strong>, and nowhere is that retreat more visible than in\u00a0California<\/strong>. Long the epicenter of progressive climate ambition, the Golden State is now\u00a0backpedaling<\/strong>. Democrats who once championed aggressive environmental mandates are hitting pause,\u00a0reworking regulations<\/strong>, and\u00a0distancing<\/strong>\u00a0themselves\u00a0from policies that have driven up energy and housing costs.<\/strong>\u00a0A post-2024 reality check has swept the party:\u00a0climate may still poll well in theory, but not when it collides with affordability.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

This shift isn\u2019t isolated.<\/strong> It\u2019s emblematic of the climate hawks\u2019 broader failure \u2014 a movement that moralized, catastrophized, and sacrificed working-class livelihoods on the altar of performative virtue.<\/strong> And it didn\u2019t stop with workers. Families were expected to absorb the fallout \u2014 higher costs, fewer opportunities, and a more uncertain future \u2014 all in the name of climate dogma.<\/strong> For years, these activists dominated environmental discourse by demanding ideological purity.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They mistook loud rhetoric for leadership, performance for policy,
and apocalyptic forecasts for political strategy.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Thankfully, as The Breakthrough Institute\u2019s Alex Trembath has long forecast, the era of the climate hawk is over. And the climate will be better off for it.<\/strong> As former allies begin to walk away, it\u2019s clear their crowning achievement was turning climate into a culture war they were never equipped to win.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of this shift is a growing movement that doesn\u2019t
treat energy as a sin, but as a tool of national strength.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

t\u2019s a philosophy that values building over banning,<\/strong> which means restoring industrial capacity, modernizing infrastructure, and investing in the American worker. It rejects the scarcity mindset<\/strong> that tells people they must give up comfort, reliability, or opportunity in the name of climate \u2013 so that the next generation doesn\u2019t grow up fearing collapse, but growing into a culture of confidence, responsibility, and renewal.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, it insists that the way forward is to invest in
the backbone of our economy, empower the working class,
and bring energy production home.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It recognizes the answer to environmental challenges isn\u2019t less; it\u2019s more. More energy. More innovation. More freedom<\/strong> to solve problems creatively. Instead of forcing society to shrink and sacrifice, we ask how we can grow smarter. Recognizing that climate strategy must also serve the interests of the people, national security, and long-term prosperity,<\/strong> it\u2019s a vision rooted in hope for the future, not austerity.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there\u2019s a policy consensus emerging.
Clean energy systems need to be affordable and reliable.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Rather than relying on long-term subsidies or regulations, domestic policy should be structured to encourage the innovation, commercialization, and deployment of cheaper and cleaner energy resources. This way, American resources and technology can expand energy at home and dominate global markets, while also reducing emissions. Likewise, policy should\u00a0prioritize climate adaptation<\/strong>. We should empower communities with the tools and flexibility to manage their forests, embrace regenerative agriculture, and resourcefully steward their ecosystems as the climate changes. Our environmental approach should be grounded in the\u00a0American family and national interest at the center of the conversation.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"A<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s replacing the hawks isn\u2019t apathy. It\u2019s realism.\u00a0A new generation is emerging \u2013 leaders who are less interested in preaching and more interested in producing.<\/strong>\u00a0They view\u00a0climate not as a moral crusade, but as a challenge of engineering, economics, and national renewal.<\/strong>\u00a0They understand that the future won\u2019t be built through degrowth or doomerism, but through innovation, adaptation, and strategic investment in America\u2019s strengths.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t about utopian dreams or global pledges. It\u2019s about reindustrializing the nation, repowering the grid, and grounding environmental goals to serve the American people.<\/strong> That\u2019s how you build lasting support \u2013 and get real results.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The climate hawks are facing extinction. And in their absence,
something stronger is finally taking flight.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n
