The federal government is now under&nbsp;<strong>mounting political pressure to expedite the construction of pipelines<\/strong>&nbsp;to tidewater that will bring economic growth, employment, energy security and funding for social programs or tax relief.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>What caused the sharp reversal in public opinion?<br>And will the government actually deliver?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Prime Minister Mark Carney<\/strong>&nbsp;has&nbsp;<strong>long championed climate catastrophism and<\/strong>&nbsp;a&nbsp;<strong>commitment to net zero<\/strong>, both in his various jobs on the world stage and in his 2021 book, Values.&nbsp;<strong>After<\/strong>&nbsp;entering politics, however,<strong>&nbsp;he has embraced fossil fuels<\/strong>, and the&nbsp;<strong>legacy media have joined him<\/strong>&nbsp;in a head-spinning abandonment of its obsessive focus on global warming\u2019s alleged existential threat to humanity. It was no surprise, then, that<strong>\u00a0in 2022, 73 per cent of Canadians\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2023\/02\/03\/new-survey-on-climate-change-shows-youth-most-motivated-to-take-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">believed<\/a>\u00a0we were confronting a climate emergency<\/strong>. The Little Ice Age\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.smith.edu\/climatelit\/the-effects-of-the-little-ice-age\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ended<\/a>\u00a0in the late 19th century with a gradual rise in temperatures \u2014 if not, we would still be in an ice age.
