Labour\u2019s climate envoy has billed the taxpayer for flying the equivalent of three times the circumference of the Earth, The Telegraph can reveal.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rachel Kyte<\/em><\/a> travelled by aeroplane on more than a dozen trips since becoming the Government\u2019s top diplomat for net zero in September, despite admitting her carbon footprint was \u201ca source of deep discomfort\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The majority of Ms Kyte\u2019s flights were business class and have cost taxpayers a total of \u00a338,769, according to a Freedom of Information request made by this newspaper.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Kyte has previously spoken of air travel\u2019s negative impact on the environment and said that partly as a result she has felt personally conflicted about flying at times.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Telegraph has already raised questions about her suitability for this job, in an article last year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new climate envoy with links to a hedge fund that has <\/em>donated millions of pounds to Labour<\/em><\/a> has been appointed by the party, it has emerged.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rachel Kyte has been appointed to the role of UK special representative for climate, which attracted a salary of \u00a3130,000 the last time that it was filled.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Kyte also sits on the advisory board of the Quadrature Climate Foundation (QCF), which was set up by Quadrature Capital, whose parent company is based in the Cayman Islands.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last night, Joy Morrissey, the shadow energy minister, wrote to the head of the <\/em>Department for Energy Security and Net Zero<\/em><\/a> to demand answers over the appointment.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Conservative source said: \u201cYet again Labour is facing accusations of running their Government on a cash for jobs basis.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey should urgently come clean about the nature of this appointment or finally confirm that cash really is king in Starmer\u2019s new administration.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
