A Green-led council has been\u00a0branded \u201cabsolutely insane\u201d<\/a>\u00a0after it painted spots on a road as part of a measure to calm the traffic. The Telegraph<\/a> has the story.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents in Bedminster, Bristol, were left confused after a series of green dots were painted on Greville Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various theories circled the street while Bristol city council<\/a> initially said it was \u201cinvestigating\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it has now been confirmed they were painted as part of a traffic-calming scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ed Plowden, a councillor and chairman of the transport and connectivity committee, said the markings had been placed in response to residents who had requested a reduction in \u201cthrough-traffic and improve safety in the area\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It comes after the council unanimously voted to pass a motion from Green councillors calling for a \u201cvision-zero\u201d approach to road safety<\/a> in 2023. The motion aimed to achieve zero road related accidents within Bristol by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Francis said that road was already \u201cslippery\u201d and she was worried that the additional markings would mean that her \u201cbike tyres will slide away\u201d, especially when the roads were wet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cllr Mark Weston of the Conservative party said the road markings were an \u201cabsolutely insane\u201d attempt to balance traffic and argued there were other more important ways the council could be spending its time and money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
