BBC report on a solar panel fire at a Bristol hospital yesterday:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregnant women were moved to safety earlier after a large fire broke out on the roof of a maternity hospital.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire involving solar panels at St Michael\u2019s Hospital, on Southwell Street in Bristol, shortly before 16:30 BST.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mothers-to-be and babies were moved outside of the building, supported by midwives who brought out milk and fruit. The fire was extinguished within an hour and the hospital reopened by 19:00.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jess Hutchinson, 22, whose waters had broken, said it was “scary” hearing the fire on the roof, where a number of solar panels have been destroyed by the flames.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever the exact cause, it is a reminder of the danger of putting large quantities of inflammable electrical equipment on the roof of a public building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
