Couple in their 30s installed the panels on their five-bedroom house a month before the fire, neighbours say.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New solar panels probably caused a fire that has severely damaged a \u00a31.5 million home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five-bedroom home in Ferndown, Dorset, was engulfed in 20ft flames on Monday afternoon\u00a0when the panels ignited<\/a>. The Telegraph<\/a> has the story.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firemen said the roof and \u201centire first floor\u201d of the detached house were destroyed in the blaze. The owners were not hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neighbours said the panels had only been fitted to the property, which is believed to be owned by a couple in their 30s, in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Webb, a 75-year-old neighbour, said he was in his garden when the \u201cterrifying\u201d fire started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy wife [was] gardening and I suddenly noticed this burning smell and said, \u2018What on earth is that?\u2019\u201d said Mr Webb, a retired special needs specialist. \u201cI looked up and saw 20ft high flames shooting from the back of the house and called 999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey were tackling the fire from our driveway and there were exploding bangs like an air raid. It was terrifying. Thankfully they managed to stop it spreading to our house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another neighbour, who was not named, said \u201cmost of the house has gone\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
