What we can do to fill the vacuum left by the looming collapse of our fossil fuel export business (which, by chance, happens to be our highest-productivity industry).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>It was Garnaut who first had the vision of transforming Australia into a \u201cSuperpower\u201d in a world of ubiquitous renewable energy. And it was he who uncovered the facts that made this goal plausible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This would \u201cgenerate export income for Australians vastly in excess of that provided by the gas and coal industries that will decline as the world moves to net zero emissions over the next few decades\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Garnaut concludes: \u201cThe new industries are large enough to drive restoration of growth in Australian productivity and living standards after the dozen years of stagnation that began in 2013.\u201d<br><br>\u2026Read more:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/business\/the-economy\/ross-garnaut-prophet-with-a-sunny-vision-of-our-glorious-future-20250511-p5ly7n.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/business\/the-economy\/ross-garnaut-prophet-with-a-sunny-vision-of-our-glorious-future-20250511-p5ly7n.html<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funny how renewables, the allegedly cheapest form of energy, always seems to require accepting a lower standard of living during the transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reality is expensive green products produced by renewables are never going to \u201c<em>generate export income for Australians vastly in excess of that provided by the gas and coal industries<\/em>\u201c, nor will they \u201c<em>drive restoration of growth in Australian productivity and living standards<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reason is, unlike Australia,&nbsp;<strong>the rest of the world accepts nuclear power as a zero carbon energy source<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even renewable obsessed nations like Germany are happy to receive nuclear power from France when their fake German renewable energy system stops producing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given this acceptance of nuclear, goods which are more expensive than what can be produced by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/world-nuclear.org\/information-library\/country-profiles\/countries-a-f\/france\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">French zero carbon nuclear power<\/a>, which in France sells wholesale for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/montelnews.com\/news\/260e5f90-f640-4a50-92ff-3c7629ed9f0d\/france-to-tax-edfs-wholesale-nuclear-power-revenue-from-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">between \u20ac0.07 \u2013 \u20ac0.11 \/ kWH<\/a>, simply won\u2019t be competitive \u2013 especially when you add the cost of shipping goods all the way from Australia to the sale price.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hydrogen fuel, if it ever becomes a serious option, will never be economical to export from Australia. It will always be cheaper to manufacture hydrogen using nuclear powered hydrolysis in-situ in the Northern Hemisphere, than producing hydrogen using Australian solar energy then transporting the hydrogen to Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even farfetched plans to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2019\/08\/04\/solar-power-from-australia-to-light-up-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">run an undersea electricity cable from Australian solar plants to Singapore<\/a>&nbsp;are dubious.
