The wildlife and everything else we loved it for will be gone \u2013 and no one will buy our house.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scale of the planned Beacon Fen solar farm next to Goodhand and Johnson-Mansley\u2019s property is huge, covering more than 1,300 acres of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2025\/01\/31\/tenth-of-farmland-to-be-axed-for-net-zero-steve-reed\/\">mostly top quality farmland<\/a>, according to documents submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It means Goodhand and Johnson-Mansley, living on its southern edge, will be surrounded by the 15ft-high panels on three sides \u2013 with a road on the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the Beacon Fen developers, Low Carbon, a private investment company based near Pall Mall in central London, it means 40 years of profits. Farmers, who live out of sight of the panels, will also be entitled to decades of rental income estimated at over \u00a31,000 an acre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Such plans highlight what some see as an emerging \u201cwild west\u201d approach to the solar planning scramble hitting England\u2019s most rural counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a scramble boosted by a near-total lack of planning rules or guidelines \u2013 allowing solar developers to buy or lease vast tracts of fertile green farmland and cover them in solar panels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
