Companies will still face pressure to manage for climate change, even as government rolls back US climate policy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the federal government moves to eliminate U.S. climate rules<\/a>, companies still face pressure to be better stewards of the planet from their customers<\/a>, investors<\/a>, employees<\/a>, local communities<\/a>, lenders<\/a>, insurers<\/a>, global trading partners<\/a> and many states<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Each of those groups knows it will face increasing costs<\/a> from rising temperatures<\/a>and extreme weather<\/a> if corporations don\u2019t rein in their greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Companies have also helped drive the expansion of renewable energy, motivated by the competitive economics of renewables<\/a> and business opportunities<\/a>. Facebook\u2019s parent company Meta<\/a> and Google<\/a> invested nearly $2 billion<\/a> in projects to provide renewable energy in the Tennessee Valley Authority service area, even though no government required them to do so. And major companies continued signing<\/a> renewable energy<\/a> power purchase agreements<\/a> in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Microsoft<\/a> and Amazon<\/a> are responding to massive new power demand by trying to locate data centers near existing nuclear power plants for cleaner energy supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love that they picked Facebook \/ Meta as an example. While companies like Facebook are investing in renewables, or at least announcing such investments, this isn\u2019t the full story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
