His worldview is losing intellectually, politically, and business-wise. Is it time for him to retire and happily live off his spouse\u2019s (ill-gotten) renewable energy riches?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cexistential crisis\u201d climate narrative is in meltdown. Houston solar leader John Berger has resigned, his 12-year-old company (Sunnova)&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/solar-power-issues\/sunnova-berger-bankruptcy\/\">positioned for bankruptcy<\/a>. Other solar and wind stocks are tanking, and offshore wind is out of play. Battery and EV firms are regular restructuring news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Climate activists find themselves out of taxpayer monies. The U.S. Department of Energy, Department of Interior, and Environmental Protection Agency are implementing President Trump\u2019s \u201cnone-of-government\u201d climate policy, reversing Podesta-Biden-Harris climate alarmism and the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cato.org\/policy-analysis\/budgetary-cost-inflation-reduction-acts-energy-subsidies\">budget-busting Inflation Reduction Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is one fossil-fuel-despising business editorialist who is wed to the Climate Industrial Complex, not to mention a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/houston-chronicle\/tomlinson-houston-chronicle-confession\/\">multi-millionaire renewables executive<\/a>&nbsp;(thanks to your tax money). His name is&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/author\/chris-tomlinson\/\">Chris Tomlinson<\/a>, whose climate take is so severe that he has written such statements in the&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em>-like&nbsp;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/houston-chronicle\/houston-chronicle-cancels-me-unpublished-loe\/\">Houston Chronicle<\/a><\/em>, as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We fundamentally have to transform our economy in ways that are unimaginable to people who are over 40. We have to cooperate, innovate and compromise, and most of all, we have to set aside our pride. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/tomlinson-chris-houston-chronicle\/chris-tomlinson-catholic-church\/\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looming over the industry and the congress is the question of the long-term viability of fossil fuels as climate change becomes a greater threat to humanity. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/houston-chronicle\/chris-tomlinson-goes-ugly-against-oil\/\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The industry\u2019s most talented propagandists will offer advice on burnishing petroleum\u2019s image as resentment toward fossil fuels grows. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/houston-chronicle\/chris-tomlinson-goes-ugly-against-oil\/\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c[Oil companies] don\u2019t want to discuss winding down their industry, even if that is the only sustainable and efficient future for the planet.\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/houston-chronicle\/chris-tomlinson-goes-ugly-against-oil\/\">here<\/a>)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo wonder so many Texans refuse to acknowledge climate change; the planet\u2019s fate relies on transforming not only our economy but our culture\u2026. It\u2019s not much of an exaggeration to say that climate change might come to a screeching halt if all humans switched to electric transportation and a vegetarian diet by 2030.\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/houston-chronicle\/tomlinson-beef-against-beef\/\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lot of Texans consider an affordable steak dinner and a big pickup truck God-given rights\u2026. We will pay for our profligacy one way or another, either by changing our sources of protein and energy or dooming future generations to worsening weather and natural disasters. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/uncategorized\/naked-climate-alarmism-tomlinson-on-the-take\/\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tomlinson is quite an outlier\u2013and without a conscience to report fairly on the exaggerations of climate science and failures of political energies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Latest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tomlinson\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/link.houstonchronicle.com\/click\/39005784.77\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaG91c3RvbmNocm9uaWNsZS5jb20vYnVzaW5lc3MvY29sdW1uaXN0cy90b21saW5zb24vYXJ0aWNsZS90cnVtcC1jbGltYXRlLW9pbC1idXNpbmVzcy1ydWluLTIwMjE2MzM1LnBocD91dG1fY29udGVudD1oZWQmc2lkPTViMDIzMmJhMmRkZjljMTJlYWVkYWI4ZiZzcz1BJnN0X3JpZD02ZTE3MGYxYi05ZDU0LTQ0NjQtOWZjNC00OWJlNTVhOTY0ODkmdXRtX3NvdXJjZT1uZXdzbGV0dGVyJnV0bV9tZWRpdW09ZW1haWwmdXRtX3Rlcm09Y29sdW1uJnV0bV9jYW1wYWlnbj1oY3JuJTIwJTdDJTIwdG9tbGluc29uJTI3cyUyMHRha2U\/5b0232ba2ddf9c12eaedab8fB491ea42b\">Trump Cabinet members make Big Oil CEOs look like climate activists at CERAWeek<\/a>\u201d last week is long on sarcasm and short on underlying realities. He begins:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Donald Trump\u2019s Cabinet secretaries speaking in Houston at the world\u2019s top energy conference made oil and gas executives look like left wing climate activists by comparison as CEOs struggled to adapt to another swing of the political pendulum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: The oil and gas industry was bullied, bruised, and bribed by Podesta-Biden-Harris, but rent-seeking and greenwashing are not winning strategies now. Consumers and taxpayers can rejoice!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Energy Secretary&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/link.houstonchronicle.com\/click\/39005784.77\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaG91c3RvbmNocm9uaWNsZS5jb20vYnVzaW5lc3MvZW5lcmd5L2FydGljbGUvdHJ1bXAtd3JpZ2h0LW9pbC1nYXMtbG5nLWNsaW1hdGUtaG91c3Rvbi1ndWxmLTIwMjA4NzU1LnBocD9zaWQ9NWIwMjMyYmEyZGRmOWMxMmVhZWRhYjhmJnNzPUEmc3RfcmlkPTZlMTcwZjFiLTlkNTQtNDQ2NC05ZmM0LTQ5YmU1NWE5NjQ4OSZ1dG1fc291cmNlPW5ld3NsZXR0ZXImdXRtX21lZGl1bT1lbWFpbCZ1dG1fdGVybT1jb2x1bW4mdXRtX2NhbXBhaWduPWhjcm4lMjAlN0MlMjB0b21saW5zb24lMjdzJTIwdGFrZQ\/5b0232ba2ddf9c12eaedab8fBbd51e0c5\">Chris Wright\u2019s triumphal speech<\/a>, awkwardly delivered to the friendliest of audiences, proved the Trump administration\u2019s policies are extreme, even from the fossil fuel industry\u2019s perspective. Attendees seemed almost embarrassed for him\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: What a trashy mischaracterization! Other reports of the talk did not mention a flawed delivery or incoherent content. Yes, the remnants of the Climate Industrial Complex at CERA were stunned. But for the real entrepreneurs, the f<em>ree market capitalists<\/em>&nbsp;(versus the political capitalists), the DOE secretary\u2019s talk&nbsp;<em>was<\/em>&nbsp;triumphal.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost every CEO speaking at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/link.houstonchronicle.com\/click\/39005784.77\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY2VyYXdlZWsuY29tL2VuP3NpZD01YjAyMzJiYTJkZGY5YzEyZWFlZGFiOGYmc3M9QSZzdF9yaWQ9NmUxNzBmMWItOWQ1NC00NDY0LTlmYzQtNDliZTU1YTk2NDg5JnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9bmV3c2xldHRlciZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV90ZXJtPWNvbHVtbiZ1dG1fY2FtcGFpZ249aGNybiUyMCU3QyUyMHRvbWxpbnNvbiUyN3MlMjB0YWtl\/5b0232ba2ddf9c12eaedab8fB6faf87df\">CERAWeek by S&amp;P Global<\/a>&nbsp;reiterated their commitment to slowing climate change. They asked for a \u201cdurable policy\u201d that did not require them to rewrite business plans every four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: It is called rent-seeking and greenwashing. Didn\u2019t you know this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CEO of Saudi Aramco, whose speeches typically have a Darth Vader vibe, felt positively progressive in his dedication to fighting climate change. \u201cThis has to be about delivering real results,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/link.houstonchronicle.com\/click\/39005784.77\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYXJhbWNvLmNvbS9lbi9uZXdzLW1lZGlhL3NwZWVjaGVzLzIwMjUvcmVtYXJrcy1ieS1hbWluLW5hc3Nlci1hdC1jZXJhd2Vlay0yMDI1P3NpZD01YjAyMzJiYTJkZGY5YzEyZWFlZGFiOGYmc3M9QSZzdF9yaWQ9NmUxNzBmMWItOWQ1NC00NDY0LTlmYzQtNDliZTU1YTk2NDg5JnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9bmV3c2xldHRlciZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV90ZXJtPWNvbHVtbiZ1dG1fY2FtcGFpZ249aGNybiUyMCU3QyUyMHRvbWxpbnNvbiUyN3MlMjB0YWtl\/5b0232ba2ddf9c12eaedab8fBc5e377d4\">Amin Nasser said<\/a>. \u201cLet me be absolutely clear: this does not mean stepping back from our global climate ambitions. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions must still get the highest possible priority. That means prioritizing technologies that drive efficiency, lower energy use, and further reduce greenhouse gas emissions from conventional energy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: Saudi Aramco should privatize its oil and gas wealth to reward citizens, not a Kingdom hierarchy. If only Tomlinson thought about incentives and wealth democratization in this regard. And the same for Mexico, whose mineral wealth has been kept from the people to maintain a political elite (see the proposal of Guillermo Yeatts&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/privatization\/argentina-energy-reform-yeatts-lives\/\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the de facto leader of OPEC, Saudi Arabia\u2019s policies carry weight. The kingdom is focused on creating new technologies that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/link.houstonchronicle.com\/click\/39005784.77\/aHR0cHM6Ly91bmZjY2MuaW50L3Jlc291cmNlL2NsaW1hdGVhY3Rpb24yMDIwL3RlcC90aGVtYXRpYy1hcmVhcy9jYXJib24tY2FwdHVyZS9pbmRleC5odG1sP3NpZD01YjAyMzJiYTJkZGY5YzEyZWFlZGFiOGYmc3M9QSZzdF9yaWQ9NmUxNzBmMWItOWQ1NC00NDY0LTlmYzQtNDliZTU1YTk2NDg5JnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9bmV3c2xldHRlciZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV90ZXJtPWNvbHVtbiZ1dG1fY2FtcGFpZ249aGNybiUyMCU3QyUyMHRvbWxpbnNvbiUyN3MlMjB0YWtl\/5b0232ba2ddf9c12eaedab8fB3b37cf03\">capture carbon emissions<\/a>&nbsp;so the world can keep using oil and natural gas. Climate activists may denounce this strategy, and economists may question its affordability, but at least Nasser acknowledges the need to fight climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: The leader of a centrally planned, autocratic State can afford to greenwash and try to get some good international diplomacy at the same time. There is little altruistic about this, as Tomlinson admits elsewhere. And watch OPEC members deemphasize uneconomic ventures in the new environment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wright, Burgum and Trump never talk about reducing emissions; their policies would increase them, thereby speeding up global warming. Burgum argued that the artificial intelligence arms race with China was a bigger problem than overheating the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: Check your alarmist premises, Chris! If only you would question high-sensitivity climate models that make carbon dioxide a&nbsp;<em>political<\/em>&nbsp;pollutant. CO2 is&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/carbon-dioxide\/why-co2-is-not-a-pollutant\/\">not a pollutant<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/carbon-dioxide\/idso-co2-benefits-summary\/\">CO2 enrichment<\/a>&nbsp;is a positive externality.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wright insisted climate change was simply the price of doing business. \u201cThe Trump administration will treat climate change from what it is (sic), a global physical phenomenon that is a side effect of building the modern world,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/link.houstonchronicle.com\/click\/39005784.77\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZW5lcmd5Lmdvdi9hcnRpY2xlcy9zZWNyZXRhcnktZW5lcmd5LWNocmlzLXdyaWdodC1kZWxpdmVycy1rZXlub3RlLXJlbWFya3MtY2VyYXdlZWstMjAyNT9zaWQ9NWIwMjMyYmEyZGRmOWMxMmVhZWRhYjhmJnNzPUEmc3RfcmlkPTZlMTcwZjFiLTlkNTQtNDQ2NC05ZmM0LTQ5YmU1NWE5NjQ4OSZ1dG1fc291cmNlPW5ld3NsZXR0ZXImdXRtX21lZGl1bT1lbWFpbCZ1dG1fdGVybT1jb2x1bW4mdXRtX2NhbXBhaWduPWhjcm4lMjAlN0MlMjB0b21saW5zb24lMjdzJTIwdGFrZQ\/5b0232ba2ddf9c12eaedab8fB9ce4e36b\">Wright said<\/a>. \u201cResponses to climate change bring their own set of trade-offs. The Trump administration will end the Biden administration\u2019s irrational quasi-religious policies on climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: Correct! Speaking Truth to the Climate Industrial Complex. The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/thedailyeconomy.org\/article\/inside-the-church-of-climate\/\">Church of Climate<\/a>, resting on naive Deep Ecology notions, needed this takedown.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wright and [Interior Secretary Doug] Burgum] went long on criticizing the previous administration, but were short on what they would do to stop rising greenhouse gas emissions. They said the Trump administration\u2019s priority is only to produce more energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: Were you listening? Climate mitigation is a fool\u2019s errand and budget buster. The emphasis is on adaptation to and resiliency against weather extremes, which goes far beyond exaggerated \u2018climate change\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My colleagues and I had joked before CERAWeek that we should tally how many times executives would say \u201cdrill, baby, drill\u201d\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Comment<\/strong>: Your press colleagues? From the&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<em>Inside Climate News<\/em>? Maybe that is your problem; confirmation bias from hanging around those you agree with, including your spouse (below).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When CERAWeek founder Dan Yergin asked&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/link.houstonchronicle.com\/click\/39005784.77\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaG91c3RvbmNocm9uaWNsZS5jb20vYnVzaW5lc3MvYXJ0aWNsZS9jaGV2cm9uLXdpcnRoLWhvdXN0b24taG9tZS1ob3VzdG9uaWFuLWNlcmF3ZWVrLTIwMjEzNTQxLnBocD9zaWQ9NWIwMjMyYmEyZGRmOWMxMmVhZWRhYjhmJnNzPUEmc3RfcmlkPTZlMTcwZjFiLTlkNTQtNDQ2NC05ZmM0LTQ5YmU1NWE5NjQ4OSZ1dG1fc291cmNlPW5ld3NsZXR0ZXImdXRtX21lZGl1bT1lbWFpbCZ1dG1fdGVybT1jb2x1bW4mdXRtX2NhbXBhaWduPWhjcm4lMjAlN0MlMjB0b21saW5zb24lMjdzJTIwdGFrZQ\/5b0232ba2ddf9c12eaedab8fB2ff1713a\">Chevron CEO Mike Wirth<\/a>&nbsp;what he was looking for from the administration, he answered: \u201cDurability.\u201d \u201cSwaying from one experience to the other is not the right policy approach.
