Well, well, well\u2014look who\u2019s finally come around! California Governor Gavin Newsom, the Golden State\u2019s self-styled progressive poster boy, has just declared a state of emergency to clear flammable brush from the state\u2019s forests. And why? Because President Donald Trump\u2019s been right all along, and Newsom knows it. POLITICO broke the story<\/a> detailing how Newsom\u2019s dramatic move suspends California\u2019s sacred environmental regulations\u2014those same rules the left has clung to like a security blanket while wildfires torch the state year after year. Turns out, Trump\u2019s been sounding the alarm on this for years, and Sacramento\u2019s finally listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s rewind the tape. Back in his first term, Trump famously pointed out what any sensible person could see: California\u2019s forests were a tinderbox waiting to ignite, choked with dead trees and brush that the state refused to clear. His solution? Manage the land\u2014rake it, trim it, do something\u2014instead of letting nature run wild under the guise of eco-piety. The response from the California elite? Sneers and eye-rolls. \u201cRaking the forests? How simplistic!\u201d they scoffed, as if Trump had suggested fairy dust could solve the problem. Meanwhile, wildfires kept burning, lives were lost, and billions in damages piled up\u2014culminating in January\u2019s Los Angeles blaze, now pegged as the costliest disaster in U.S. history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast forward to today, March 3, 2025. Newsom\u2019s emergency order isn\u2019t just a policy shift\u2014it\u2019s a tacit admission that Trump\u2019s been on the money. The governor\u2019s suspending the California Environmental Quality Act and Coastal Act, those bureaucratic behemoths Trump and his allies have long blamed for tying the state\u2019s hands. Newsom\u2019s even echoing Trump\u2019s language, promising \u201cfuel breaks\u201d and \u201cprescribed fires\u201d to protect vulnerable communities. Sound familiar? It should. Trump\u2019s been hammering this point since at least 2018, when he first called out California\u2019s mismanagement\u2014despite the fact that over half the state\u2019s forests are federally controlled, a detail his critics conveniently ignore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And here\u2019s the kicker: Newsom\u2019s timing couldn\u2019t be more transparent. With Trump back in the White House and Republicans holding the purse strings on nearly $40 billion in disaster aid for Los Angeles, the governor\u2019s suddenly eager to play ball. POLITICO notes Trump\u2019s January visit to LA, where he slammed the California Coastal Commission as a permitting nightmare\u2014 \u201cthe most difficult in the entire country,\u201d he said. Now Newsom\u2019s slashing those same red-tape rules to appease the administration. Coincidence? Hardly. This is a man who knows the aid spigot won\u2019t flow unless he shows some spine on forest management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The irony is thicker than the smoke over LA. For years, Newsom and his crew insisted they\u2019d \u201csurged\u201d brush-clearing efforts since he took office in 2019. Yet here we are, with the governor admitting it\u2019s not enough\u2014implicitly conceding that Trump\u2019s critique hit the bullseye. Even Richard Grenell, Trump\u2019s special envoy, is piling on, calling the Coastal Commission \u201ca disaster\u201d and hinting at tying aid to real reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, let\u2019s raise a glass to common sense prevailing\u2014at least for now. California\u2019s finally waking up to the reality that hugging trees doesn\u2019t stop them from burning. Trump\u2019s been vindicated, and Newsom\u2019s eating a slice of humble pie, whether he admits it or not. The only question left is how long it\u2019ll take the eco-warriors to forgive their golden boy for this heresy. Something tells me they won\u2019t be raking him over the coals too hard\u2014not when there\u2019s federal cash on the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
