Gas is driving energy bills up, renewables are lowering them<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Report says gas has added \u00a33,000 to bills since the energy crisis started.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The numbers don\u2019t lie\u2014gas is the main reason energy bills have skyrocketed over the last four years.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the view from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), who have worked out that gas price spikes will have added a staggering \u00a33,000 to the average UK household bill since the crisis began.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s \u00a3750 a year, seven times the cost of supporting renewables.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be very clear on this, it is gas that has been driving up energy bills over the past four years and it continues to do just that,\u201d said Jess Ralston, energy analyst at the ECIU. \u201cFamilies are struggling because the UK is heavily reliant on gas for both electricity generation and home heating and the price of gas is volatile.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
