Policy<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Climate change is unfair.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In collaboration with climate justice advocates and experts in the U.S. and Canada, we measured and explored predictors of Americans\u2019 climate justice beliefs and intentions to engage in related behaviors as part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/climatecommunication.yale.edu\/publications\/climate-change-in-the-american-mind-climate-justice-spring-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Climate Change in the American Mind<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;survey (<em>n<\/em>&nbsp;= 1,011).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Communication about climate justice should describe specific ways that climate change harms some people more than others, as well as the practical benefits of climate justice initiatives.&nbsp;<\/strong>For example, investments in infrastructure for vulnerable communities can reduce everyone\u2019s risks from climate change impacts such as flooding. Moreover, many existing policies that promote climate justice \u2013 such as green job training and reskilling programs, transitioning to renewable energy, and home weatherization \u2013 are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/climatecommunication.yale.edu\/publications\/climate-change-in-the-american-mind-politics-policy-spring-2024\/toc\/6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">already popular<\/a>&nbsp;among the U.S. public, so linking climate justice concepts to these benefits may build support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The full article is available&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.envsci.2024.103976\">here<\/a>&nbsp;for those with a subscription to&nbsp;<em>Environmental Science &amp; Policy<\/em>, and a public postprint is available&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/osf.io\/phxf9\">here<\/a>&nbsp;on the Open Science Framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/climatecommunication.yale.edu\/publications\/climate-justice-article\/\">YPCCC<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe these folks haven\u2019t been keeping up with current events, but Climate Justice got its @$$ kicked on November 5, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exit Poll: Climate Voters were Harris\u2019s Strongest Supporters.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/elections\/2024\/general-results\/voter-analysis\">AP\/NORC exit poll<\/a>&nbsp;of over 120,000 general election voters found that&nbsp;<strong>7% of voters said climate change was the most important issue<\/strong>&nbsp;facing the country (up from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/elections\/2020\/general-results\/voter-analysis\">4% in 2020<\/a>). Additionally, the Environmental Voter Project\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bFDUHTqYN40&amp;t=3165s\">analysis of exit polling data<\/a>&nbsp;found that these&nbsp;<strong>climate-first voters supported Kamala Harris by a 10:1 margin, which was larger than Harris\u2019s support from any other issue constituency group<\/strong>. Unless we\u2019re supposed to just do without electricity when the weather doesn\u2019t cooperate, a 100% \u201cclean energy\u201d economy would require a serious revision of the First Law of Thermodynamics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">100% \u201cclean energy\u201d can\u2019t work without nuclear power and the authors of this survey oppose nuclear power because they view it as \u201cinherently dirty, dangerous and costly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Center for Climate Change Communication<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Center for Climate Change Communication (4C) is a research organization focused on promoting a left-of-center narrative around climate change. 4C is part of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4C conducts research on public perceptions of climate change and then uses that research to advocate for environmentalist policy through communications with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and corporations.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-8315\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">George Mason University professors Edward Maibach and Connie Roser-Renouf founded 4C in 2007 while pursuing a research partnership with Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following year, 4C conducted its first&nbsp;Climate Change in the American Mind (CCAM) national public opinion poll with the support of the Yale program.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-2-8315\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;Starting in 2009, 4C turned its attention to portraying climate change as an issue of public health.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-3-8315\"><sup>3<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;4C runs a Program on Climate and Health, an initiative that argues that fossil fuel use is leading to climate change and unspecified \u201chealth harms\u201d and advocates for the use of renewable energy.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-4-8315\"><sup>4<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Partnerships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Center for Climate Change Communication has collaborated with a number of left-of-center organizations to support its policy and research agendas, receiving support from groups including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/physicians-for-social-responsibility\/\">Physicians for Social Responsibility<\/a>, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/rockefeller-family-fund\/\">Rockefeller Family Fund<\/a>, and the environmentalist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/town-creek-foundation\/\">Town Creek Foundation<\/a>.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-15-8315\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;4C has used funding from the Rockefeller Family Fund since 2016 in order to fund policy advocacy initiatives related to 4C\u2019s environmentalist research.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-15-8315\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">4C has also partnered with a number of federal government agencies, including the National Park Service (NPS), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/government-agency\/national-oceanic-and-atmospheric-administration-noaa\/\">National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)<\/a>, and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/government-agency\/national-aeronautics-and-space-administration-nasa\/\">National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)<\/a>. Beginning in 2012, 4C partnered with NPS to hire interns to communicate left-of-center theories about the impact of climate change on national parks to park visitors.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-16-8315\"><sup>16<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;4C\u2019s other government partnerships have been used to fuel and public opinion research projects in support of environmentalism.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-15-8315\"><sup>15<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2008 and 2012, 4C conducted national surveys with the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) which concluded that \u201clocal public health departments are seeing increases in climate change-related health problems.\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-17-8315\"><sup>17<\/sup><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-18-8315\"><sup>18<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opposition to Nuclear Energy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Center for Climate Change Communication was a cosigner on an April 2021 letter to President Joe Biden that asked the administration to promote weather dependent wind and solar power systems and \u201cend the fossil fuel era.\u201d The letter also advised the president to \u201cPhase out nuclear energy as an inherently dirty, dangerous and costly energy source.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-19-8315\"><sup>19<\/sup><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nuclear power plants produce no carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gas emissions, and from 1990 until 2021 accounted for 20 percent of American electricity production\u2014the largest source of zero carbon electricity in the United States.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/#easy-footnote-bottom-20-8315\"><sup>20<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-climate-change-communication\/\">Influence Watch<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The April 2021 letter to Sleepy Joe only advocated for wind, solar and Communism\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n<div It was established to be a \u201cpass through\u201d nonprofit, emphasizing strategic grants to groups able to influence energy regulatory policy. Harvey has a history of left-wing environmental activism.
