class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While AEP was praising China to the sky, claiming that \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2025\/01\/31\/right-wing-wokeism-green-tech-global-energy-war\/\">China that is running away with the prize<\/a>\u201d of decarbonisation, the next day his colleague at the Telegraph, Jonathan Leake, told the truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ed Miliband may be agonising over the success of net zero but Xi Jinping has no such scruples.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In a bid to meet soaring electricity demand, the Chinese premier is overseeing plans to burn more coal than ever before \u2013 increasing the country\u2019s annual usage by an extra 75m tonnes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The planned increase in coal production will undoubtedly strengthen China\u2019s position as the world\u2019s biggest source of greenhouse gases, with the country already emitting the equivalent of 15bn tonnes of carbon a year \u2013 almost a quarter of the world\u2019s total.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2025\/02\/01\/xi-jinpings-coal-burning-blitz-is-making-the-dream-net-zero\/\">The coal-burning country killing the case for net zero<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
