today by Sarah Knapton, Science Editor, headlined&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2025\/01\/27\/how-global-warming-save-three-million-lives-northern-europe\/\">\u201cGlobal warming to prevent 3.4 million deaths from cold \u2026 but at a deadly cost<\/a><\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is based on a new study which claims global warming will prevent 3.4 million deaths from the cold in Europe by the end of the century, but heat will kill 5.8 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apparently Italy, France and Spain would face hundreds of thousands of excess deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But nowhere does Knapton recognise the fact that cold kills four times as many people than heat in southern
