Trump has only been President for a week, and already policies on the far side of the world are shifting. Just like that, the European Union has realized they might have too many green regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s only a \u201cleaked draft\u201d of a five year economic plan  \u2014 but the favored hyperbolic term du jour \u201cunprecedented\u201d now applies to deregulation, not climate change:  \u201c\u201cThis Commission will deliver an unprecedented<\/strong> simplification effort\u2026\u201d. <\/em>And apparently, next months unprecedented effort is just the first round of simplifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draft document says they need to adapt to \u201cnew realities\u201d \u2014 like possibly that the US economy is about to unshackle itself from the Net Zero ball-and-chain-fantasy and eclipse the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BRUSSELS \u2014 The European Union\u2019s new economic \u201ccompass\u201d has a north star the burgeoning movement to revoke stringent green rules will love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A leaked draft<\/a> of the European Commission\u2019s competitiveness compass \u2014 an economic doctrine to guide the EU executive\u2019s work for the coming five years \u2014 points toward widespread deregulation targeting the European Green Deal in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturally, the EU will \u201cstay the course\u201d on its climate targets (that\u2019s what they all say, as they back away). But the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk demanded a \u201cfull and critical\u201d review of the EU\u2019s Green Deal last week and laid the cards out about as bluntly as anyone could:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf we go bankrupt no-one will care about the world\u2019s environment any more,\u201d Tusk said, calling for an honest, full and \u201cvery critical review of all regulations, including those arising from the Green Deal\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tusk wants any review to identify and change EU laws that may lead to higher energy prices. \u201cThere is, for example, the issue of ETS 2 in front of us,\u201d he said, singling out the separate trading system covering emissions from road transport and heating fuels, which is scheduled to launch in 2027. \u2014 EU must be honest about Green Deal  <\/a>\u2014 The Argus<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unthinkably, Tusk even appeared to suggest that the Green Deal had caused high energy prices:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called for a \u201creview of all legal acts including those under the Green Deal\u201d and for \u201ccourage to change those rules that might result in prohibitively high energy prices,\u201d attacking, in particular, a carbon fee on fossil fuels used to heat homes and power cars coming into force in 2027.  \u2014 Politico<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

France is also asking the EU to delay the corporate sustainability rules. The French \u201cfar-right\u201d (sensible) Jordan Bardella<\/a>\u00a0wants to \u201ctear down the European Green Deal\u201d. He is urging conservative parties to work together to kill off the Green Deal altogether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end Trump may kill Green movements all over the world, not by invading, but through free speech, capitalism and competition. That\u2019s why they hate him so much. The whole levitating fantasy of global weather control could only be maintained if every other western nation kept up the Cosplay game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
