JP refers to Peterson and PP to Poilievre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>JP:<\/strong>\u00a0Trump famously met with Trudeau and seemed to troll him quite hard. First thing, I don\u2019t know to what degree the Canadian press picked up on this, but Trudeau wasn\u2019t invited to stay at Mar-a-Lago and there\u2019s 126 rooms there. So when Trump invites someone he also invites them to stay there. So, you know that was a message, and then he trolled him hard. He called him the governor of America\u2019s 51st State and let it be known that he had very little respect for him. You know,<strong>&nbsp;because I\u2019m no fan of Trudeau, one was amused pleasure<\/strong>&nbsp;at Trump\u2019s vicious humor let\u2019s say. And the&nbsp;<strong>other one<\/strong>, you know he is&nbsp;<strong>the leader of our primary ally<\/strong>&nbsp;and a G7 nation, and so maybe that<strong>&nbsp;verged on contempt.<\/strong>&nbsp;I\u2019m not exactly sure what to make of that and I\u2019m curious about your response, and also<strong>&nbsp;how you feel about negotiating a new relationship with the Americans and with the Trump Administration in particular.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rclutz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/trudeaus-five-pillars.gif?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/rclutz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/trudeaus-five-pillars.gif?w=723&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36487\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>PP:<\/strong>\u00a0Well, I won\u2019t spend a lot of time on how I feel about it other than to say\u00a0<strong>Trudeau is a weak leader who leads a weakened economy with a weakened dollar and a weakened border.<\/strong>\u00a0And president\u00a0<strong>Trump<\/strong>\u00a0has a strong mandate and he he spent his life as\u00a0<strong>a highly successful businessman in the most cutthroat economic environment in the world,<\/strong>\u00a0New York City. So, in construction yeah and in Chicago. Look,<strong>\u00a0first and foremost we need to show up with strength.<\/strong>\u00a0We have an American president who has always\u00a0<strong>put America First, he\u2019s very blunt about it. I\u2019ll put Canada First.<\/strong>\u00a0The good news is that there\u2019s\u00a0<strong>immense overlap in the two countries respective interests and values.<\/strong>\u00a0We\u2019re both liberal democracies, we both value Freedom, we both share a geography. We have our enemies and our risks, and our threats are the same, so<strong>\u00a0there\u2019s no reason why we can\u2019t both win.<\/strong>\u00a0If you look at the history of President\u00a0<strong>Trump<\/strong>, he negotiates very aggressively and he likes to win, but in the end, he\u00a0<strong>doesn\u2019t appear to have a problem if his counterparty also wins<\/strong>. So, I think that we can get a great deal that will\u00a0<strong>make both countries safer, richer and stronger.<\/strong>\u00a0That\u2019s the goal that I\u2019ll be coming with into these negotiations.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>JP:<\/strong>&nbsp;Okay, so&nbsp;<strong>what would a great deal look like<\/strong>&nbsp;as far as you\u2019re concerned with the Americans on the energy side. One of the things that&nbsp;<strong>Trump pointed to<\/strong>&nbsp;was&nbsp;<strong>Canada\u2019s Trade Surplus<\/strong>&nbsp;with the US at 1 billion was his estimate.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>PP:<\/strong>&nbsp;It depends how you measure it, other estimates have it at around 40 billion, but he\u2019s right, there is a Canadian Trade Surplus with the states. And&nbsp;<strong>from a mercantilist point of view you can say that America has been ripped off by China and Mexico.<\/strong>&nbsp;You can see examples of a factory closing in Ohio or Pennsylvania to open in Mexico or in China. But t<strong>hat\u2019s not the nature of the Canadian Trade Surplus<\/strong>. It\u2019s not a matter of the Canadian economy taking American jobs, far from it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>The nature of our Trade Surplus with America is that while it is a rip-off,<br>it\u2019s Canada ripping itself off and let me explain.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Our entire Trade Surplus and more is due to oil and gas because\u00a0<strong>we export about $120 billion of oil and gas to the United States at enormous discounts<\/strong>\u00a0to market price because we have been so stupid and our\u00a0<strong>bureaucrats<\/strong>\u00a0have been\u00a0<strong>so obstructive<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>woke activists<\/strong>\u00a0have been\u00a0<strong>so fanatical that we have not<\/strong>\u00a0been able to develop<strong>\u00a0the infrastructure to refine and transport our own energy to World Markets.<\/strong>\u00a0So, we are stuck with the US; depending on the time we sell a barrel oil to the Americans for 10% up to 30 or 40% cheaper than the world price. We give\u00a0<strong>all of our natural gas exports to the United States<\/strong>\u00a0because\u00a0<strong>we don\u2019t have<\/strong>\u00a0an an operating<strong>\u00a0liquefaction terminal<\/strong>\u00a0to send it away ourselves so they get our natural gas at massive discounts. So that would not be good for America in the long run.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Being very blunt, I intend to approve refineries and LNG plants and<br>hopefully pipelines so that I could bring that production<br>back to Canada and make us more energy independent.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>But\u00a0<strong>in the short run<\/strong>\u00a0if President Trump wants to make America richer the last thing, he should want to do is block the underpriced Canadian energy from going into his Marketplace. In fact, I would\u00a0<strong>encourage him to approve the Keystone Pipeline<\/strong>\u00a0so that we can create<strong>\u00a0jobs for American workers who will build and install it b<\/strong>ut also create much more\u00a0<strong>wealth for Alberta and Saskatchewan<\/strong>\u00a0and have their\u00a0<strong>product reach tide water in the US Gulf Coast and get World prices.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>So that\u2019s an economic win. Also, it\u2019s\u00a0<strong>not just oil and gas<\/strong>\u00a0though. We have\u00a0<strong>in Canada the Strategic minerals that are necessary for Warfare and for the modern digital economy<\/strong>\u00a0that we could be exporting to the United States breaking both of our dependencies on China. We have the energy, a major\u00a0<strong>Surplus of electricity,<\/strong>\u00a0a surplus that we could even grow further that could be used for data centers that America cannot build fast enough.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>So, there\u2019s enormous opportunities for both of us to get vastly richer if<br>we actually deepen our trade relationship rather than blocking it.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>JP:<\/strong>\u00a0Right, well it seems highly probable to me that that would be the direction that the Trump Administration would turn in\u00a0<strong>if they were negotiating with people<\/strong>\u00a0who were playing a straight game and were\u00a0<strong>actually aiming for something like economic Prosperity instead of whatever the hell it is that Trudeau\u2019s aiming for.<\/strong>\u00a0Now you made brief reference to something quite\u00a0<strong>shocking<\/strong>\u00a0in its full import which didn\u2019t really strike me until your comments. For example,\u00a0<strong>Trudeau turned away the chancellor of Germany and the leader of Japan<\/strong>\u00a0when they came cap in hand to Canada<strong>\u00a0asking for increased Natural Gas exports<\/strong>\u00a0over the long run. Stand next to the window yeah right.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>So that is the true story, the pathetic story of our Trade Surplus is<br>that we\u2019re actually handing over our resources stupidly.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It\u2019s not The Americans\u2019 fault, it\u2019s our fault. We\u2019re stupid and\u00a0<strong>we\u2019re going to stop being stupid when I\u2019m prime minister.<\/strong>\u00a0We\u2019re going to build this infrastructure ourselves but, in the meantime, it would be it would be bad for American workers and consumers for the president to tariff our oil and gas.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>And look,&nbsp;<strong>we have an integrated economy;<\/strong>&nbsp;I think an&nbsp;<strong>automobile crosses the Border something like eight or nine times<\/strong>&nbsp;between Ontario and the manufacturing states of the US<strong>&nbsp;before it becomes a finished product.<\/strong>&nbsp;Why interrupt those Supply chains? Also why not allow Americans just to have access to buying our minerals?
