The enemy is&nbsp;<em>Statism<\/em>. Left libertarians such as David Boaz and Tom Palmer, with their emotions raging, and outfits like the Left-funded, TDS-infested, Kamala-supporting Institute for the Study of Modern Authoritarianism never got it and still don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Statism and intellectual elitism took a big hit in the election. Count the reasons, such as this listing distributed on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the economy\u2026. migrant mess\u2026. inflation spurred by rampant spending\u2026. green energy idiocy\u2026. electric-everything mandates\u2026. Left\u2019s anti-Americanism. Men in women\u2019s sports. Transitioning children.<br>Threats to the Supreme Court and the filibuster. Lawfare. Government greed. Lasting damage done to a generation of children from repressive lockdowns. Abandonment of merit in favor of identity politics. Foreign policy idiocy, such as the Afghanistan debacle and sending billions to Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And promised spending binges. Unjustified or excessive TDS. Rampant antisemitism. Disastrous public education system for children. Highly suspect \u2013 and telling \u2013 selection of Tim Walz rather than Josh Shapiro as Harris\u2019s running mate.<br><br>The Deep State. Blatant lying. Open contempt for average Americans. Naked bigotry. Big Tech collusion. Censorship, speech suppression, and ministries of truth. The \u201ccoup\u201d that installed Harris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The utter awfulness of Harris. Unqualified, unable to answer an unscripted question, lacking any track record that would suggest she\u2019s ready for the Presidency, dithering, deceitful, disrespectful, dodging, and apparently capable only of generating word salad.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Losing Left Politics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/column\/bret-stephens\">Bret Stephens<\/a>&nbsp;provided a warning to the Left with his pre-election&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em>&nbsp;editorial, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/22\/opinion\/trump-kamala-harris-democrats.html\">There\u2019s One Main Culprit if Donald Trump Wins<\/a>\u201d (October 22, 2024). He called out \u201cthe way in which leading liberal voices in government, academia and media practice politics today\u201d and listed seven problem areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The politics of condescension<\/em>\u2026.&nbsp;<em>The politics of name-calling<\/em>\u2026.&nbsp;<em>The politics of gaslighting<\/em>\u2026.&nbsp;<em>The politics of highhandedness.<\/em>\u2026&nbsp;<em>The politics of Pollyanna<\/em>\u2026.&nbsp;<em>The politics of selective fidelity to traditional norms.<\/em>\u2026&nbsp;<em>The politics of identity over class.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephens\u2019 post-election editorial,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/17\/opinion\/never-trump-republicans.html\">Done With Never Trump<\/a>, continued his pre-election analysis (December 17, 2024):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is it time to drop the heavy moralizing and incessant doomsaying that typified so much of the Never Trump movement \u2014 and that rendered it politically impotent and frequently obtuse? Yes, please. But Never Trumpers also overstated our case and, in doing so, defeated our purpose.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephens continued:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So here\u2019s a thought for Trump\u2019s perennial critics, including those of us on the right: Let\u2019s enter the new year by wishing the new administration well, by giving some of Trump\u2019s cabinet picks the benefit of the doubt, by dropping the lurid historical comparisons to past dictators, by not sounding paranoid about the ever-looming end of democracy, by hoping for the best and knowing that we need to fight the wrongs that are real and not merely what we fear, that whatever happens, this too shall pass.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Final Comment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All true. The enemy is not Donald Trump and never has been. The enemy is&nbsp;<em>Statism<\/em>. Left libertarians such as&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.masterresource.org\/libertarianism\/libertarian-case-trump\/\">David Boaz and Tom Palmer<\/a>, with their emotions raging, and outfits like the Left-funded, TDS-infested, Kamala-supporting&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ismaglobal.org\/\">Institute for the Study of Modern Authoritarianism<\/a>&nbsp;(publisher of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theunpopulist.net\/\">The UnPopulist<\/a>), never got it and still don\u2019t.&nbsp;<strong>[1]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, the large majority of real-world libertarians and the think tanks therein are excited about the prospects of the new Administration compared to the Road-to-Serfdom Democrats. The post-Boaz Cato Institute is back in the political game, offering&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/x.com\/CatoInstitute\/status\/1876766520157622627\">insight and ideas<\/a>&nbsp;about maximizing markets and freedom and rolling back Statism in the Trump framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tom \u201cTrumpissmo\u201d Palmer (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theunpopulist.net\/p\/david-boaz-a-tribute-to-his-life\">his slur<\/a>) has blocked me on social media, so expect more emotionalism, despair, and anger toward a world where normal, hard-working Americans elected Trump (for good reason) and want to be left alone from \u2018experts\u2019\u2013and misfit culture warriors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s to a very interesting 2025!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>[1]<\/strong>&nbsp;ISMA (per founder Shikha Dalmia) advertises itself as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ismaglobal.org\/\">a public policy organization committed to defending free societies and opposing the worldwide slide into illiberalism<\/a>\u201d (whatever that means). The UpPopulist (Substack)&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theunpopulist.net\/about'\">describes<\/a>&nbsp;itself as \u201ca publication committed to defending liberal democracy against new forms of authoritarianism in the United States and around the world.\u201d It sees Trump as \u201cFar Right,\u201d but not Biden-Harris and radical progressivism as Far Left. Very strange\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was banned from The UnPopulist&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theunpopulist.net\/p\/your-comprehensive-guide-to-the-far\/comments\">comment section<\/a>&nbsp;(\u201cuser was indefinitely suspended for this comment\u201d) for this challenge to Tom Palmer, coauthor of this Far Right interpretation: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/your%20comprehensive%20guide%20to%20the%20far%20right:%20Part%20I\/\">Your Comprehensive Guide to the Far Right: Part I<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tom Palmer should now write a similar piece on the Far Left. Words like authoritarianism and fascism apply. An Op-Ed in today\u2019s NYT gave this as a potential reason for a Trump victory over Harris:<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe politics of name-calling,&nbsp;which happens every time Trump\u2019s voters are told they are racists, misogynists, weird, phobic, low-information or, most recently, supporters of a&nbsp;fascist&nbsp;\u2014 and, by implication, fascists themselves. Aside from being gratuitous and self-defeating \u2014 what kind of voter is going to be won over by being called a name? \u2014 it\u2019s also mostly wrong. Trump\u2019s supporters overwhelmingly are people who think the Biden-Harris years have been bad for them and the country. Maybe liberals should try to engage the argument without belittling the person.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enough said. Time to substitute&nbsp;<em>scholarship&nbsp;<\/em>for&nbsp;<em>emotionalism<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Statism<\/em>&nbsp;for Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe enemy is not Donald Trump and never has been.
