\u201cIs it just a coincidence that the worst of the worst happened in California, the Climate State? The Green State? The DEI State? Joe, the mainstream is not buying your \u2018Climate Ate My Homework\u2019 reasoning.\u201d (below)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Just add \u201cpolicy\u201d in two places in Romm\u2019s quotation above, and substitute \u201cinaction\u201d for \u201caction\u201d at the end, and his conclusion can be fixed. But who is Joe Romm? And what is his track record? I have tangled with Angry Joe for decades (I am a \u2018sociopath\u2019 to him) and can address these questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who Is Joe Romm?<\/strong>

Joe Romm has been a trenchant voice for climate alarm and forced energy transformation (wind, solar, batteries, efficiency) for many decades. [1]<\/strong> I have challenged him ever since the 1990s when his energy-efficiencies dreams led him to praise Enron (\u201ca company I greatly respect<\/a>\u201d) and its most fraudulent division, Enron Energy Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I continued to spar with him until the \u2018indispensible blog<\/a>\u2018 Climate Progress (Center for American Progress) went defunct<\/a>. (My suspicion is that his emotional, virulent style\u2013\u201cstunning\u201d <\/em>for the liked; \u201cheads exploding\u201d <\/em>for the disliked\u2013grew tiresome.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His exaggerations are legion, including We Don\u2019t have 12 Years to Save the Climate. We Have 14 Months<\/a>, (July 2019). But go back to his \u201cMideast Oil Forever?\u201d<\/a> (The Atlantic Monthly<\/em>, April 1996), analyzed here<\/a>, where Joe (and his coauthor Charles Curtis) stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2026 let\u2019s start by examining the likelihood that an oil crisis will occur in the coming decade. Forecasting is always risky, especially where oil is concerned, but consider what a variety of experienced energy hands from every point on the political spectrum have said in the past year alone [many experts quoted\u2013all errant].<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

That \u201cenergy crisis\u201d never happened except for government energy\/climate policy increases prices and reducing reliability. The first two oil crises came from price and allocation controls\u2013the third never came from an absence of the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in Romm\u2019s 2007 book, Hell and High Water<\/a><\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have no room for error\u2026. Barring a major reversal in U.S. policies in the very next decade, come the 2020s, most everyone will know the grim fate that awaits the next fifty generations. [The alternative to inaction] is a [later] massive, sustained government intervention into every aspect of our lives on a scale that far surpasses what this country did during World War II.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Joe Romm Today<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Romm is an expert! Currently a senior research fellow<\/a> at the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s Center for Science, Sustainability and the Media (PCSSM), Romm describes himself<\/a> as<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Acting Assistant Secretary of Efficiency and Renewables, Speaker, 2x TEDx, author, \u201cThe Hype About Hydrogen.\u201d Economist Paul Krugman: \u201cI have learned a lot of what I know about energy economics from Joe Romm.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Never shy, often wrong. Romm\u2019s professional life is as an expert<\/em> versus the ill-informed public. The premise of climate alarmism and wind\/solar\/energy\/efficiency to save the planet from fossil fuels (really CO2, the nonpollutant<\/a>) is Romm\u2019s multi-decade theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Latest?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn a rational and moral world,\u201d Romm states regarding the southern California fire box,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But in our world, the initial flame of disinformation that the fossil fuel companies lit over half-century ago to delay action on climate change has spread like wildfire until it\u2019s a firestorm of falsehoods.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What disinformation! Is it just a coincidence that the worst of the worst happened in California, the Climate State? The Green State? The DEI State? Joe, the mainstream is not buying your \u201cClimate Ate My Homework\u201d reasoning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know what the similarities<\/em> are between psychics and deniers. They both use unscientific methods, generally make stuff up with no evidence to support their views, and have consistently been debunked when scrutinized. What is the difference<\/em> between a psychic and a climate science denier? In fairness, psychics sometimes guess the right answer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

With 7 billion people going to 9 billion, much of the environment is unsavable \u2026 the relatively stable environment and climate that made modern human civilization possible will be ruined, probably for hundreds of years \u2026 with permanent Dust Bowls in Southwest and around the globe. And that means misery for many if not most of the next 10 to 20 billion people to walk the planet (expunged, but reviewed here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
