A new Private Member\u2019s Bill is winging its way through Parliament currently, innocently called the Climate and Nature Bill.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It poses a very real threat to our freedoms and democracy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yikes!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Climate and Nature Bill<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (CAN Bill) is like Net Zero on steroids (or maybe Bovaer?) \u2013 and it appears to have the support of nearly a third of MPs.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CAN Bill was initially introduced by then Green MP Caroline Lucas in 2020 under a different name. It started its current passage through Parliament in October and is due for its second reading on 24 January 2025.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In keeping with other bad and extreme policy ideas majoring on the word \u201czero\u201d, backers of the CAN Bill have set up a website called \u201cZero Hour\u201d <\/em>here<\/em><\/a> \u2013 have a look and see if your MP is one of the 188 apparently backing it on <\/em>this page<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before you pack your bags to start a new life in another country, we should point out that CAN is <\/em>a private members\u2019 bill<\/em><\/a> rather than a piece of legislation initiated by a minister on behalf of the government.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traditionally, private members\u2019 bills are used mostly by backbench MPs to bring awareness or scrutiny around a certain issue. Only a minority of private members\u2019 bills (around 1 in 20 in the period 2010-2024) actually make it into law.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the CAN Bill is worth our attention for a number of reasons.<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Private Member\u2019s Bills rarely pass into law, though the recent Assisted Dying Act proves the exception. Apparently at least 188 MPs are already publicly backing the Bill \u2013 you can check if yours is one here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But even if this one does not, the ideas contained within it will still be pushed, no matter how crazy they seem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all, Net Zero was once just the preserve for a few cranks, until Theresa May thought she\u2019d like something to be remembered for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is inevitable that Net Zero targets will increasingly fall by the wayside, as they become increasingly expensive and impractical. When that happens, we will surely see more, coordinated attempts by the likes of the CCC, the Green Blob and the Milibands of the world to force the UK into submission to their suicidal policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
