class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Vauxhall is planning to shut its Luton van-making factory in a move that puts 1,100 jobs at risk, as&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2024\/11\/26\/britain-poised-to-water-down-electric-vehicle-rules\/\"><em>net zero rules force it to curtail sales of petrol vehicles<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Stellantis, the car giant behind Vauxhall, Peugeot, Fiat and Citro\u00ebn, said it would focus investments on its Ellesmere Port factory in Cheshire.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It said it was taking the decision \u201cin the context of the ZEV mandate\u201d, referring to&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/business\/2024\/10\/31\/vauxhall-sales-plunge-ev-cars-slowdown\/\"><em>electric car sales targets<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;that carmakers have criticised as overly tough.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Carlos Tavares, chief executive of Stellantis, launched a \u201cstrategic review\u201d of its UK operations this year, saying the ZEV mandate was making Britain a \u201cvery difficult market\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Maria Grazia Davino, the company\u2019s former UK managing director, had warned that the company could close plants if the Government does not relax electric vehicle targets.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Car companies face heavy fines if they do not hit targets that require 22pc of their sales to come from EVs this year, rising to 80pc in 2030.
