at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, also called COP29, in Baku, Azerbaijan, said Wednesday that extreme heat events should be named in order to combat climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/11\/11\/uns-climate-confab-kicks-off-after-study-finds-elites-drive-emissions-flying-private-to-swanky-forums\/\">summit<\/a>, which began Monday, featured speakers&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/11\/12\/animal-protein-overconsumption-un-climate-confab-attendees-urge-countries-to-implement-tax-on-meat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">proposing<\/a>&nbsp;taxes on the meat and dairy industry and \u201cclimate finance\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/10\/17\/gaps-inconsistencies-41-billion-world-bank-climate-handouts-unaccounted-report-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">initiatives<\/a>&nbsp;for less-developed countries. One is just, as the U.N. system comes together to work together on this \u2026 to provide some of the research and data, support some of that, to provide \u2014 to fund pilots and evaluation of heat action plans in key countries to help support getting access to other funds, public and private, in those countries. So that\u2019s one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe second is really, given the urgency and the unprecedented nature of what we\u2019re seeing on extreme heat, we need to be open to different and multiple different approaches here. We need to test, trial things quickly, learn from them, move on, take risks and be innovative,\u201d Mountford said. \u201cOne example for it right now is naming extreme heat events, and I\u2019m happy to continue supporting that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires are commonly named for tracking purposes and streamlined reporting, however, the National Weather Service has claimed that weather patterns such as heat waves have historically not been named because they are, \u201chighly contextual,\u201d NPR&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/07\/30\/nx-s1-5037863\/why-scientists-are-advocating-to-name-heat-wave#:~:text=In%20an%20email%20statement%2C%20the,like%20humidity%20and%20air%20conditioning.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple officials from the Biden administration \u2014 which notably&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/11\/12\/biden-harris-major-emissions-initiative-climate-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backed away<\/a>&nbsp;from a major emissions initiative at the event \u2014 including Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, White House climate advisor John Podesta and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, are attending the event in Azerbaijan.
