Toyota\u2019s North American Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jack Hollis criticized U.S. policies promoting electric vehicle adoption (EV) on Friday, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Toyota COO said that electric vehicle policies are \u201cde facto mandates\u201d that are not in sync with consumer demand, according<\/a> to Bloomberg. Hollis also said that EV mandates such as those in California are impossible to meet, according<\/a> to CNBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe whole EV ecosystem is ahead of the consumer,\u201d Hollis told reporters Friday, \u201cIt\u2019s not in alignment with consumers. It\u2019s just not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Biden-Harris administration has introduced<\/a> various EV-related policies as part of President Joe Biden\u2019s climate agenda, including introducing a tailpipe emissions<\/a> rule in March that would require about 67% of all light-duty vehicles sold after 2032 to be EVs or hybrids. Biden has been leading a push to build<\/a> half a million public EV chargers nationwide by 2030, that has so far been met<\/a> with various slowdowns<\/a>. (RELATED: Ford CEO Admits Driving Chinese EV After Receiving Billions From Taxpayers To Make Rival Cars Domestically)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various American automakers have backpedaled<\/a> on EV goals<\/a> despite the current administration funneling billions<\/a> of dollars in subsidies<\/a> as part of its EV agenda. The California Air Resources Board\u2019s \u201cAdvanced Clean Cars II\u201d<\/a> regulations require that 35% of 2026 model-year vehicles be zero-emission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have not seen a forecast by anyone \u2026 government or private, anywhere that has told us that that number is achievable. At this point, it looks impossible,\u201d Hollis said of the zero-emission regulations. \u201cDemand isn\u2019t there. It\u2019s going to limit a customer\u2019s choice of the vehicles they want.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many automakers have experienced issues with EV sales<\/a>, including used EV<\/a> models experiencing drastic price cuts due<\/a> to slackening consumer demand. Ford Motor Company announced<\/a> in October that it lost an additional $1.2 billion on EVs in the third quarter and announced in September that it would offer free<\/a> EV chargers and home installations to incentivize customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toyota did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
