could be on pace to exceed power supply by the end of the decade, according to Bain, a major consultancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Utilities could need to increase their annual power generation by as much as 26% by 2028 to meet surging demand, which the rise of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/08\/31\/big-tech-artificial-intelligence-net-zero-electricity-power-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">artificial intelligence<\/a>&nbsp;(AI) is driving with power-hungry&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/07\/03\/tech-nuclear-power-artificial-intelligence-data-centers-grid-reliability-affordability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data centers<\/a>&nbsp;that are necessary to sustain AI technologies, according to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bain.com\/insights\/utilities-must-reinvent-themselves-to-harness-the-ai-driven-data-center-boom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new report<\/a>&nbsp;from Bain. The rest of the growth will come from manufacturing and commercial electricity use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bain joins a growing list of power grid&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/09\/17\/epa-power-plant-rules-grid-operators-reliability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">operators<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/08\/16\/grid-official-warns-biden-power-plant-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">experts<\/a>&nbsp;to warn that America\u2019s electrical system is coming under strain as demand surges and regulations force the premature retirement of reliable fossil fuel-fired capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Specifically, the Biden-Harris administration finalized regulations in April that will require existing coal plants to use&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/11\/20\/carbon-pipeline-local-opposition-paperwork-problems-illinois-wolf-ccs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">carbon capture and storage<\/a>&nbsp;(CCS) to control 90% of their carbon emissions by 2032 if they want to stay running past 2039, and certain new natural gas plants will also have to cut their emissions by 90% by 2032,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/newsreleases\/biden-harris-administration-finalizes-suite-standards-reduce-pollution-fossil-fuel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to the Environmental Protection Agency.
