The&nbsp;<em>Telegraph&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2024\/10\/10\/bbc-weather-app-incorrectly-forecasts-15000mph-hurricane-uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has the story<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wind speeds of 15,345mph were predicted in Oxford Circus, central London, while temperatures of 404\u00b0C were forecast in Nottingham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BBC Weather said it was were working to fix some \u201cdata issues\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2023\/06\/30\/bbc-weather-app-forecasts-temperatures-7c-technical-glitch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on its app<\/a>&nbsp;and website, and apologised for the inaccuracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commenting on BBC Radio 4\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Today&nbsp;<\/em>programme, host Nick Robinson said: \u201cIf, like me, you\u2019re one of those people who reaches for your phone first thing in the morning to look at the BBC News app or BBC Weather, you might have noticed that there are hurricane force winds in Oxford Circus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLet me just reassure you, there aren\u2019t, because I\u2019m in Oxford Circus. I\u2019m afraid there\u2019s just a little problem with the data on the BBC Weather app, which suggests that the wind speed is 350mph \u2013 which I think is something of an overestimate \u2013 but it is being dealt with, rest assured.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Co-host Emma Barnett added that Robinson was providing \u201ca live debunking of misinformation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It came as Hurricane Milton brought winds of up to 120mph&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/us\/news\/2024\/10\/10\/hurricane-milton-live-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">as it made landfall in Florida<\/a>, causing nearly three million households to lose power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matt Taylor, a BBC presenter, wrote on X, formerly Twitter: \u201cDon\u2019t be alarmed folks \u2013 Hurricane Milton hasn\u2019t made it to us here in the U.K.! There\u2019s been a data glitch between our suppliers and the app\/online. Folk are working to solve the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UN Chief Ant\u00f3nio Guterres took to X to herald the arrival of his long-predicted global boiling\u2026 okay, that bit wasn\u2019t true.
