The study\u2019s analysis found that only 63 of these policies constituted \u201csuccessful policy interventions,\u201d meaning that just 4% of the measures evaluated in the study\u2019s sample effectively reduced emissions.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/30\/supreme-court-epa-climate-congress-powers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(RELATED: Supreme Court Delivers Massive Blow To Biden\u2019s Climate Agenda)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dems\u2019 Massive Green Energy Agenda Is Walking America Right Into China\u2019s Hands, Analysis Claims<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/YHH5A3e0fy\">https:\/\/t.co\/YHH5A3e0fy<\/a>\u2014 Daily Caller (@DailyCaller)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1828364889137578420?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 27, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAcross four sectors, 41 countries, and 2 decades, we found 63 successful policy interventions with large effects that reduced total emissions between 0.6 and 1.8 [billion metric tons] of [carbon dioxide],\u201d the study states. Moreover, most of the emissions cuts observed in the study were the result of two or more policies having a combined effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have a lot of policies out there that have not led to large emission reductions, and more policies do not necessarily equate to better outcomes,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcc-berlin.net\/en\/about\/team\/koch-nicolas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nicholas Koch<\/a>, the head of the policy evaluation lab at Germany\u2019s Mercator Research Institute and one of the study\u2019s authors,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/2445014-most-climate-policies-do-little-to-prevent-climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a>&nbsp;NewScientist. \u201cWhat we observe is that the most frequently used policy tools, which are subsidies and regulations, alone are insufficient. Only in combination with price-based instruments \u2013 such as carbon prices, energy taxes \u2013 can they deliver substantial emission reductions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/08\/17\/inflation-reduction-act-two-years-biden-energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subsidies<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/07\/10\/epa-michael-regan-electric-vehicle-mandate-biden-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">regulations<\/a>&nbsp;generally will not compel economies to bring down emissions without complementary policies that directly tax energy use or impose outright bans on certain practices like burning coal to produce electricity, according to Koch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Richard Tol, an economics professor at England\u2019s University of Sussex with expertise in the economics of climate policies, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the study\u2019s results are indicative of fundamental issues with green subsidies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you estimate the impact of 1,500 policies, you would expect 75 of those to be statistically significant as a statistical fluke. They found only 63,\u201d Tol told the DCNF. \u201cAnyways, subsidies can be effective in the short run, less so in the long run as they make the offending activity more profitable. For example, a subsidy on energy saving (say, home insulation) makes energy cheaper so that people use more. Besides, many \u2018green\u2019 subsidies are designed to reward political allies rather than reduce emissions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/global-politics\/commentary\/china-abandons-paris-agreement-making-us-efforts-painful-and-pointless\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">critics<\/a>&nbsp;of the West\u2019s climate policies have pointed out that continued use of fossil fuels, and especially coal, by populous countries like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/11\/15\/biden-administration-climate-cooperation-china-coal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">China<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/india-increase-coal-fired-capacity-2024-by-most-least-6-years-2024-02-01\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">India<\/a>&nbsp;will blunt global emissions reductions while Western countries saddle themselves with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2024\/02\/10\/deindustrialization-germany-full-swing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">high costs<\/a>&nbsp;of an energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China is by far the world\u2019s leading emitter, more than doubling American emissions, while India is the world\u2019s third-largest source and emits more than all 27 countries in the European Union put together,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wri.org\/insights\/interactive-chart-shows-changes-worlds-top-10-emitters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a>&nbsp;to the World Resources Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>All content created by the Daily Caller News Foundation, an independent and nonpartisan newswire service, is available without charge to any legitimate news publisher that can provide a large audience.
