Clearly the BBC think the public are a bunch of simpletons!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  A couple of weeks ago they made this specific claim about polar bears:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we know, this is totally untrue, and polar bear numbers have been steadily increasing since the 1960s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I therefor submitted a complaint to the BBC to this effect. This is their response:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The focus of the report is on two polar bears killing a Nasittuq employee in the Nunavut territory of northern Canada.
In reporting \u2018There are about 17,000 polar bears living in the country \u2013 making up around two-thirds of the global population of the species\u2019, this information is attributed to the Canadian government, which states:
\u2018Canada\u2019s population of polar bear consists of over 17,000 bears, which is two thirds of the estimated global total.\u2019

According to Arctic WWF, via The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), current global polar bear population is estimated to be in the range of 22-31,000 bears:

It also reports \u2018Although most of the world\u2019s 19 populations have returned to healthy numbers, there are differences between them. Some are stable, some seem to be increasing, and some are decreasing due to various pressures.\u2019

They obviously think they can just fob people off. They obviously have not learnt their lesson that I don\u2019t get fobbed off that easily!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Needless to say, my complaint will be escalated to the next stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
