region has not been affected by CO2-induced \u201cglobal\u201d warming.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new biomarker temperature reconstruction (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/E-Magyari\/publication\/379104507_Two_chironomid-inferred_mean_July_air_temperature_reconstructions_in_the_South_Carpathian_Mountains_over_the_last_2000_years\/links\/6638adbb08aa54017ae0319d\/Two-chironomid-inferred-mean-July-air-temperature-reconstructions-in-the-South-Carpathian-Mountains-over-the-last-2000-years.pdf\">Szab\u00f3 et al., 2024<\/a><\/strong>) spanning the last 2000 years reveals South Carpathian mean July temperatures varied from 13.4\u00b0C to 16.9\u00b0C throughout the Common Era, with an identifiable Little Ice Age and Medieval Warm Period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mean summer temperature during 1980-2010 was 14.8\u00b0C, which is 2.1\u00b0C cooler than the warmest temperature periods of the last two millennia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the region warmed by ~0.6\u00b0C (from 15.2\u00b0C to 15.8\u00b0C) from 1895 to 1970, it cooled by -1.1\u00b0C (to 14.7\u00b0C) during the 3 decades from 1970-2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These trends are the opposite of what would be expected if CO2 was a driver of climate
