Now, if you shower too long, and enjoy that beefsteak too much, you could affect the tilt Earths axis. Are you feeling guilty yet, or just fed up that modern science is indistinguishable from the prophesies of Neolithic shamen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/planet-earth\/climate-change\/climate-change-day-length-tktk\">Earth is wobbling and days are getting longer \u2014 and humans are to blame<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/author\/harry-baker\">Harry Baker<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New studies, which utilized AI to monitor the effects of climate change on Earth\u2019s spin, have shown that our days are getting increasingly longer and that our planet will get more wobbly in the future. These changes could have major implications for humanity\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019re talking of fractions of a millisecond:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initially, these changes will be imperceptible to us, but they could have serious knock-on effects, including forcing us to introduce negative leap seconds, interfering with space travel and altering our planet\u2019s inner core, researchers warn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>So it\u2019s probably your air-conditioner in Power Mode, but it could be due to crustal plates shifting:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A day on Earth lasts about 86,400 seconds. I mean, we really have no idea, but let\u2019s remake our electricity grid just in case we lose a millisecond?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we melt the ice at the poles and the seas rise higher over the equator, the Earth spins slower just like the iceskater who spreads out their arms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past few decades,&nbsp;<strong>the rate of ice loss from Earth\u2019s polar regions, particularly Greenland and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/planet-earth\/antarctica\"><u>Antarctica<\/u><\/a>,<\/strong>&nbsp;has been increasing rapidly due to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/37057-global-warming-effects.html\"><u>global warming<\/u><\/a>, leading to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/tag\/rising-sea-levels\">rising sea levels<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which is all very well, except&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2019\/07\/antarctica-was-warmer-one-thousand-years-ago-and-life-was-ok\/\">Antarctica hasn\u2019t warmed in a thousand years<\/a>, the coastline hasn\u2019t changed since we&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2024\/06\/2000-kilometers-of-east-antarctic-glaciers-dont-look-much-different-after-85-years-and-1-6-trillion-tons-of-carbon-dioxide\/\">first took photos of it<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/joannenova.com.au\/2018\/11\/seas-are-rising-everywhere-except-around-islands\/\">600 Pacific Islands are not sinking<\/a>&nbsp;or shrinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plus only 4 years ago, scientists were&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencefocus.com\/planet-earth\/earth-rotation-speed\">telling us the days were speeding up<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All those emissions sped the world up, and now all those emissions are slowing us down?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2020 scientists made a startling discovery. They found that, instead of slowing down, the Earth has started to spin faster. It is now spinning faster than at any time in the last 50 years. In fact, the shortest 28 days on record all occurred during 2020. \u2014<em>&nbsp;ScienceFocus<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the&nbsp;<em>Guardian<\/em>&nbsp;they\u2019re afraid the extra millisecond will disrupt internet traffic, or screw up financial transactions and GPS. It\u2019s be like Y2K all over again, and we all know how catastrophic that was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Look at the language here, these people so want to believe we are Gods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/article\/2024\/jul\/15\/climate-crisis-making-days-longer-study\">Climate crisis is making days longer, study finds<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Damien Carrington,&nbsp;<em>The Guardian<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The phenomenon is a striking demonstration of how humanity\u2019s actions are transforming the Earth, scientists said, rivalling natural processes that have existed for billions of years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change in the length of the day is on the scale of milliseconds but this is enough to potentially disrupt internet traffic, financial transactions and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/gps\">GPS<\/a>&nbsp;navigation, all of which rely on precise timekeeping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other thing that\u2019s persisted for billions of years is radical sweeping climate change. We didn\u2019t even define what a second was until 1968. and it\u2019s not like we\u2019ve got many measurements of changes in Earths\u2019 core since then either.
