It consists of a white dwarf orbiting an ancient red giant. Hydrogen from the red giant is being pulled down onto the surface of the white dwarf, accumulating toward a critical mass. Once it erupts, the nova will be visible to the naked eye for a little less than a week \u2013 but Hounsell is confident it will be quite a sight to see. The expected magnitude is between +2 and +3, similar to stars in the Big Dipper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTypically, nova events are faint and far away,\u201d says Elizabeth Hays, chief of the Astroparticle Physics Laboratory at NASA Goddard. \u201cThis one will be really close, with a lot of eyes on it.
